A. OVERALL PURPOSE/SUMMARY

Under general supervision, perform skilled work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical, electronic, pneumatic systems and hydraulic controls; perform related work as required; assists in the development of preventive maintenance and training activities.

Plant Operation and Maintenance.

Internal:

The incumbent typically interfaces with other plant maintenance and operations personnel.

External:

Not typically applicable.

D. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Performs any combination of (but not limited to) the following duties according to specific departmental guidelines:

1.  Install, maintain, modify and repair motor control centers, motor starters, high voltage substations, transformers, switch gear, and related equipment.

2.  Install, maintain, modify and repair, electronic controls, power supplies, meters, sensors, pneumatic control systems, hydraulic controls, telemetering equipment , HVAC systems, sampling equipment and microprocessor based equipment.

3.  Ability to use electrical/electronic testing equipment such as multi meters, ammeters, megohm meters, high potential testers, oscilloscopes, digital probes, and electronic calibration equipment to troubleshoot, repair and calibrate equipment.

4.  Install electrical conduit, pull wiring and terminate wiring as necessary.

5.  Design layout work on panels, set up complex control systems, interpret and alter drawings, wiring diagrams and blueprints.

6.  Work from complex engineering and manufacturers drawings or manuals to complete projects and assigned work.

7.  Use computerized maintenance system to retrieve and enter information.

8.  Assist supervisor in training new technicians.

9.  Assist in establishing and maintaining scheduled maintenance programs for plant equipment; prepare labor and material estimates; keep maintenance records; observe safe working practices and insure work does not endanger others.

10. Perform other related work as required.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

E. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Minimum Requirements

1.  High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D.), trade, or technical school.

2.  Successful completion of NEORSD’s four (4) year Electrical Instrument Technician Training Program.

3.  Extensive knowledge of standard practices, principles, methods, materials and tools used in the electrical, solidstate electronic, hydraulic and pneumatic instrument trades.

4.  Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code and the hazards and safety precautions peculiar to the electrical trades and high voltage equipment.

5.  Ability to read and understand blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, and service manuals.

6.  Experience with equipment and systems similar to those of the District.

7.  Skill in the use of the equipment and tools of the trade.

8.  Demonstrated competency and ability to successfully complete proficiency tests in mathematics, reading, writing, communication, wastewater skills and other job-related subjects.

9.  Receptive to job related training.

10. Ability to organize and coordinate work assignments.

11. Good verbal and written communication skills.

12. Must pass substance abuse screening(s).

13. Ability to work unscheduled hours during emergency and/or unusual situations (24 hour/7 day week).

Desired

1.  Advanced education in the fields related to the job (electrical, electronic,

pneumatic systems, hydraulic controls, leadership training).

2.  Ability to successfully complete proficiency testing in mathematics, reading,

writing, maintenance skills and other related subjects.

3.  Ability to perform limited instructional duties and maintain satisfactory working relations with other employees.

F. LICENSE, CERTIFICATION AND/OR PERMIT

Minimum Requirements

1.  Must have appropriate and valid Ohio driver’s license(s) to operate vehicles and equipment.

2.  Driving record that is acceptable to the District’s insurance carrier.

G. WORKING CONDITIONS

1.  Job may include call-in work (24 hour/7 day week) during emergency or unusual situations.

2.  Exposure to usual noise associated with equipment and plant environment.

3.  Exposure to potential electrical hazards.

  1. Exposure to atmospheric conditions such as heat, cold, dust, fumes, vapors, or mists.
