A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in honor of Corria Mimms upon the occasion of her 100th birthday.

WHEREAS, Corria Mimms, a native Kentuckian of Hopkins County for the past 93 years, was born on February 3, 1914; and

WHEREAS, in 1956, Mrs. Mimms attended the commencement ceremony for her cherished son, Ronald, at Kentucky State University in Frankfort. Following that ceremony, they immediately drove to her own commencement at Morehouse College in Atlanta, thus accomplishing a rare feat of mother and son graduating from college in the same year; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Mimms retired from the Earlington Public School System, having taught fourth grade for 30 years. Her husband, the late Lester Mimms, was the first African American to be appointed principal of an integrated public school in Kentucky, and he also retired from the Earlington Public School System; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Mimms played piano for Mount Zion Baptist Church choirs for more than 80 years, and she volunteered at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville for three decades. She remains in good health to this day;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate honors and commends Corria Mimms upon the occasion of her 100th birthday, and extends its sincerest appreciation for her decades of public service in the teaching of students.

Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor of Corria Mimms.

Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Mrs. Corria Mimms, The Paragon Assisted Living, Room 219, 137 Stagecoach Road, Madisonville, Kentucky 42412; and to Ronald Mimms, 10411 Rosegate Court, Unit 105, Raleigh, North Carolina 27617.
