1st 6 weeks project
Cover letter/resume/job application, research paper and interview
- Student must research career of interest through the internet, books, and possibly the newspaper and site sources.
- Student will be required to type a cover letter for career of interest.
- Student will complete a resume for career of interest.
- Student will contact an adult and request a job interview for a job they are currently qualified for (i.e. If the career you research is Dentist but you are only qualified right now to be a lifeguard then you will request an interview to be a lifeguard….the goal is to have you practice interviewing)
- Student will write a 3-5 page research paper on the career of choice. Rubric attached.
- Student will request feedback from the interviewer.
- Student will write a Thank you note.
Student will have 4 weeks to complete project once unit has started. Time allowance will be given for interview; however, student has to have contact with a person to interview with during the first 2 weeks of starting unit.

2nd6 Weeks Project

On the above date you are to have completed one of the following projects.
1 – Prepared speaking: Student will prepare and deliver a speech to school, church, or other community group. Speech will pertain to promoting Health Science courses, or may be based on a national health observance, or may follow the HOSA national theme topic for the current year. Grading will be based on HOSA’s national competitive event guidelines.
2 – Researched writing project: The topic should be related to the National HOSA theme for the year. The student must prepare a 3-5 page typewritten (Times New Roman 12 pt font) research paper that emphasizes the HOSA theme. The paper will be graded per the attached rubric.
3 – Health Sciences Poster / Medical Reading: Student will prepare a poster based and book summary on a book that relates to health carein some aspect (i.e. the main character has a terminal disease, forensic crime novel, etc).

3rd 6 Weeks Project

On the above date you should be prepared to present your research to the class. This presentation should last at least 10 minutes. You may use video, Power Point, posters or other visual aids for your presentation. The presentation will be graded according to the attached rubric. The presentation will count 25% of the project grade with the written paper counting 75%.
Project Guidelines:
- Choose a disease or condition that interests you or pick a disease or condition that has impacted you and/or your family.

- Signs / symptoms
- Assessment findings (abnormalities on physical examination)
- Diagnostic tests and expected outcomes
- Causes of the disease or condition
- Complications of the disease or condition
- Interventions (treatments, medicines, dietary changes, specific therapies, etc)
- Rehabilitation if applicable
- Medical personnel involved and training required
- Patient teaching
- Interview of a person or caregiver of a person affected by this condition
- Information on community resources for persons affected by this condition
- Information on a support group for persons affected by this condition (attend a meeting if possible and include observations of how the group functions)
- Make an original educational brochure that could be distributed to the public to educate the community about the disease.
- Paper requirements:
- Typed in 12pt Times New Roman font in Microsoft Word
- Papers must be emailed or turned in to Gaggle drop box
- Printed copy of paper must be in a cover with pockets and the brochure should be placed in the front pocked of the folder
- Title page required
- All items in #2 must be included in the paper.
- Deductions will be made for spelling and grammatical errors
- Deductions will be made for incorrect / incomplete information
- Include a works cited page in MLA format (use at least 5 sources including the interview…web sources must be from a credible source)
