Subjects

I will evaluate my own performance in each subject area and identify how I can improve in those with which I am carrying on next session.

Subject / Level / Comments on progress / How I can improve my performance
English / 3c / I am pleased with my progress in English this year as I have passed all my assessments and my interim report was very good. I am becoming more confident about joining in discussions and the accuracy of my writing has improved. / I find Close Reading difficult.
I need to read more and concentrate on analysing how authors write. I must also get to know more about figures of speech so that I can identify them in texts.
Maths / 3 d / I have struggled with Maths this year because I’ m not very interested in the subject and I haven’t really made much effort.
I find fractions particularly difficult. / I know that Maths is very important so I will try to think about how and why I will need to be able to use these skills in real life. I will do on-line Maths exercises, as homework and get my parents to help me with fractions.
Science / 3 c / I have really enjoyed Science because of the practical work. The Biology units were my favourite part of the course as I am very interested in animals. I will be taking Biology next year. I was pleased with my S2 report. / My sister took Biology last year so I will be able to get help from her and use some of her revision notes. She also bought some very useful books for revision which I can have.
Gaelic / 3d / I have not done as well as I should in Gaelic because I do not speak it often enough out side the classroom. I find the writing difficult because I did not do much of it in primary school. I am doing quite well in listening and reading. / I must start speaking to my Dad and Gran in Gaelic. I will also watch some programmes on MG Alba. I am not taking Gaelic next year but I hope to pick it up again on S5.
French / 3c / I find the French course quite easy. As we did French every week in primary, I understand a lot of the vocabulary. My Mum speaks a little French and this has helped me. I am going to carry on with this subject next year. / I have found some useful resources on-line and I will use these to do some extra work. My Mum has a friend in France who has a daughter about my age and I’ m going to start writing to her as a pen-pal.
Latin / N/A / N/A / N/A
Computing / 3d / I haven’t done very well in this subject as I’ m not that interested in computers and technology. I can cope with data-bases and spreadsheets, Excel etc. and I know how to use the internet safely and effectively for research. / I am not going to take this subject on S3 or S4 but I will be using ICT in other subjects. I will make sure that I take an ICT based short course on S5 /6 so that I can plug any gaps in my ICT skills.
Geography / 3c / I found bits of this course quite interesting but I didn’t enjoy the units about urban development and global warming. My assessment results were quite good but I could have done better if I had really tried. / I do not intend to carry on with this subject next year.
History / 3d / History has been really enjoyable this year as we were covering topics which I am very interested in. My grades were good and I did a lot of research on the internet for my personal project. I also liked the debates / arguments we had in class about WW2. / I am going to read some history books about the topics which the teacher said we would be covering next year. I will also be watching the History Channel regularly.
Home Economics / 3d / I liked the practical work but the theory lessons were boring. I’ m not really interested in food and fabrics so I didn’t make as much of an effort with this subject. / I do not intend to carry on with this subject next year.
RME / 4d / I did quite well in this subject as I knew a lot about the Christianity topic. The Personal Search project was really good as we got the chance to study another world religion and fundraising for our link school in Pakistan was very worthwhile. / I have been reading my sisters notes on moral issues and I am looking forward studying Philosophy. I attend the SU club and learn a lot from the guest speakers.
Art / 3d / The animation we did was excellent and I got good marks in all the practical assessments. I did not do so well in the written work as I find the theory a little bit boring. / I do not intend to carry on with this subject next year.
