Chapter 5 : The World Around us Grade 3

Lesson 2 – Types of Houses

People around the world build their houses in different styles using different materials.

·  Tents: Tents are made from black goat hair and is found in the deserts of Jordan.

·  Houseboats: Houseboats are found in very crowded cities such as Hong Kong in China

·  Igloo: Igloos are made of snow and were built in very cold areas of Western Canada.

·  Mud house: Mud houses are made using bricks of mud and are found in the Hadhramaut region in Yemen.

·  Reed house: Reed houses are found in southern Iraq and are made of reeds. Reed is a type of grass that grows in wet areas and river banks.

·  Skyscrapers: Skyscrapers are very tall building and are found in large cities like Chicago in United States.

Lesson 3 – Bread Around the World

Bread is mainly made by mixing wheat flour and yeast with water. We get wheat flour from wheat. Breads come from the farm to the bakery in the following steps.

A recipe is the instructions given to make food. A recipe consists of ingredients and directions. Ingredients are the food items that are mixed together while cooking. Directions are the steps to cook a food item. The table below show where the some ingredients:
