Remote Deposit Software and Scanner Installation

Workstation Hardware and Software Minimal Requirements

10GB of available disk space recommended

2.0GHz or higher processor

Administrator access to the PC (if unsure check with your IT dept. / provider)

Before proceeding any further please ensure that scanner is unplugged from the computer!!

It is highly suggested that you disable User – Access Control for the installation (Windows Vista and up)

Install Drivers for Scanner

  1. Open Internet Explorer and go to
  2. Click on the appropriate scanner driver link (I.E. UEC7000 series, Smartsource, etc.) and, when prompted, select ‘Run’.
  3. After the download is complete the installation screens should automatically launch.
  4. Click ‘Run’ on the Internet Explorer Security Warning window.
  5. Click ‘Next’.

  1. Select Scanner Type if applicable. This screenshot is from the Burroughs Smartsource package and requires that you select the appropriate model scanner.

  1. Click ‘Install’.

  1. Do you want to install Ranger?, Click “yes”.

  1. Installation completed. Click finish

  1. Plug in scanner.
  2. Go into “Device Manager”. Type Device Manager in the search bar to bring it up quickly. Otherwise, it’s located in Control Panel
  3. Click the button to expand “Universal Serial Bus controllers.”
  4. For each “USB Root Hub” right click it and go to the “Power Management” tab and uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”. Hit Ok to close out of those screens. This must be done for all of the USB Root hubs.

Install ActiveX Controls

  1. Go to:
  2. Click the hyperlink labeled: SCO 5.8 ActiveX Controls

Click RUN

Depending on the security settings of your PC, Internet Explorer may warn you that it cannot verify the file being downloaded. If you see the following screen, Click RUN again.

Click YES

Click OK

Internet Explorer Settings

  1. Click Tools – Internet Options
  2. The Internet Options window is displayed. Select the ‘Security’ tab, highlight ‘Trusted Sites’, and click the ‘Sites’ button.
  1. The Trusted Sites window is displayed. Enter and click the ‘Add’ button. Click ‘Close’.
  1. The Internet Options window is displayed again. Click the ‘Custom Level’ button. Set the follow settings, then click ‘OK’.
  2. Automatic Prompting for ActiveX Controls – Enable
  3. Download signed ActiveX Controls – Prompt
  1. The Warning window is displayed. Click ‘Yes’.
  1. The Internet Options window is display again. Click ‘OK’.
  2. Go to Tools -> Compatibility View Settings.
  3. Type “mbandt.com” into the “Add this website” field, click “Add” and then click close.
  1. Enable pop-ups for the SCO site. Go to Tools -> Pop-Up Blocker -> Pop-Up Blocker Settings, and then put “sco.mbandt.com in the “Address of website to allow” field and hit “Add” and then close.
  1. Disable ActiveX filtering. There should not be a check box next to the words “ActiveX Filtering.”

Launching MBT Remote Deposit for the first time

  1. Open Internet Explorer and type
  2. Click the Favorites menu item and select ‘Add to favorites’.
  3. Enter the Business Online Access ID and Password then press ‘Login’.
  4. If you receive an ‘Invalid User ID / Password, Please Try Again’ error make sure that the user id and password are correct.
  5. The scanner will turn itself on and the software will load. You should see a Ranger splash screen after the login and as the home page pops up.
  6. The Deposit Status box will be displayed. Select the ‘Deposit Capture’ tab.
  1. The Merchant Capture New Deposit box is displayed. Establish the ‘Deposit Name’, ‘Deposit Amount’, and ‘Account’. Press ‘Create’.
  1. The All Items tab is displayed. Click ‘Scan’ to begin scanning items.
  2. The User Actions box is displayed once all items are scanned. Click ‘Capture Complete’ when finished.
  1. The Deposit Capture is again displayed. Correct all exceptions and balance items. When finished, click the ‘Submit Deposit’ button.
  2. The Thank You screen will be displayed.

Troubleshooting Notes

  1. 64 bit editions of Windows have a 32 bit and 64 bit version of Internet Explorer. Settings such as safe sites lists, pop-up blockers, etc. do not carry over from one edition to the other. The add-ons such as the SCO1251 ActiveX controls and Ranger scanner add-ons will work with either browser.
  2. Internet Explorer sometimes disables add-ons if some type of failure occurs. The SCO1251 ActiveX controls, Ranger Drivers & Alternatiff add-ons all need to be enabled. To view Add-ons and their status, go to Tools – Manage add-ons in Internet Explorer. Then select Show all add-ons.
  3. To test basic connectivity between the scanner and the computer, from the START menu find the Silver Bullet Technologyfolder and open RangerFlex. When you open that program, you should see the Silver Bullet splash screen, and the Start Feeding button should turn from gray to black. If you load checks in the scanner and hit Start Feedingyou can test just the scanner outside of the MBT Remote Deposit site.
  4. If this works, but the scanner does not function in MBT Remote Deposit check the following:
  5. Is the SCO1251 ActiveX controls program installed?
  6. Are there any relevant add-ons disabled in Internet Explorer?
  7. Are the Internet Explorer settings all correct (pop-up blocker, compatibility view mode, safe sites, etc.)?
  8. Scanner displays Hardware Exception Type=21. This error is caused by the ink cartridge. Make sure the ink cartridge is installed and if it is remove the cartridge and re-insert it in the scanner.
