Teen M.I.S.S.I.O.N (Making It Safe and Sober In Our Neighborhood)---Safe Communities Team of the MAGIC Collaborative

What’s the big deal about underage drinking? According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, kids who drink are more likely to:

·  Be victims of violent crimes.

·  Engage in risky sexual behavior

·  Have serious problems in school.

·  Be involved in drinking related traffic accidents

·  Develop alcohol dependence

According to the Pennsylvania Youth Survey (PAYS), Greene County youth age 12-17 reported higher alcohol use than neighboring counties and the state: Roughly 37% reported using alcohol within the past 30 days. Our kids are trying to tell us something. Teen MISSION strives to prevent and/or reduce the early initiation and regular use of alcohol among middle to high school youth. The MAGIC Moments Newsletter gives a complete list of alcohol-free social and recreational opportunities for youth and families. These events and activities provide healthy alternative activities that keep our youth safe and alcohol-free. It is important to promote and participate in community activities that support Our Youth,. Our Neighborhood. Our MISSION.
