Job Title: Creative Learning Producer – York Art Gallery
Reporting To: Learning Manager
Responsible for: Learning Facilitators
Salary: YMT Scale 5-6, SCP 22 - 28 (£22,232 rising to £26,858 per annum pro rata, actual salary £17,785.60 rising to £21,486.40)
Contract:temporary (9 months) part time (29.6 hours per week) with the possibility of extension
Main Purpose of the Job
To devise and deliver dynamic creative programming to support ourexhibitions programme, enhance community engagement,offer a range of learning opportunities and drive visitors to York Art Gallery.
The post will also have responsibility for formal learning activity at York Art Gallery (YAG).

Core Responsibilities

Create and deliver innovative high impact public programming activities at YAG toenhance the core exhibition programme, deepen audience engagementand increase visitor attendance in line with York Museums Trust’s (YMT) strategic priorities.
Drawing on the very best of theatre, arts and cultural programming to deliver a step change in our approach to public programming at YAG,introducing high quality partnership andcommissioning practice to significantly increase our reach.
Working in partnershipor co-creating / co-commissioning projects with creative agencies to pioneer new ways of interpreting our collections and engaging audiences in line with YMT strategic priorities.
MaintainYAG’s family friendly reputation andsupport YMT taking a leadership role as an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation in family friendly delivery.
Work with teachers and pupils to develop YAG’s formal learning offer and trial new ways of working that draw on practices in Arts, STEM and the cultural industries to support teaching of the national curriculum through engagement with our collections and the public programme.
Develop the formal learning offer of schools workshops and self-led visits for KS1 –KS4 working towards bringing them in line with the public programming approach.
Work with the Curatorial teams to develop excellent Interpretation in all YAG exhibitions and ensure that audience engagement and learning is considered at every stage of the project.
Deliver programming in the Project Gallery that offers alternative voices and perspectives on the core exhibition offer, working with partners, individuals and community groups to create added value and depth of engagement.
Embed meaningful evaluation throughout the public programme, building our knowledge and understanding of our audiences and shaping a programme that meets visitor’s needs and exceeds their expectations.
Support the development of Public Programming across all YMT sites bringing specialist expertise in arts, theatre and cultural programming.
Work with the Volunteer team to grow the volunteer programme at YMT and ensure volunteering is meaningfully embedded in the work we do.
Manage YAG Learning spaces ensure they are properly maintained and equipped.
Source fundraising opportunities to support delivery of the Public Programme.
Promote and develop equality and diversity in line with YMT Equality Statement.

Skills and Experience
Essential
  • Degree or comparable experience in a relevant field
  • Experience of arts / cultural commissioning for the public
  • Experience of producing high quality interpretation, theatre or digital engagement activities in a cultural, heritage or museum setting
  • Knowledge of formal and/or informal learning practices
  • Experience of creating public events for at least one of the following; families, young people or schools
  • Experience of planning, managing and reporting against budgets.
  • Production management experience.
  • Creative partnership working and / or co-commissioning experience.
  • Strong organisational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to use initiative and effectively problem solve
  • Ability to work flexibly and as part of a team
  • Ability to work on own initiative and manage time effectively

Salary

Probationary period

Appointments are subject to the successful completion of a six month probationary period.

Health

Prospective employees must be cleared by the Occupational Health Service as medically fit for employment by the Trust.

Annual leave

The annual leave entitlement is 25days per annum pro rata, increasing by five days after five years continuous service with the Trust, plus public holidays.

Hours of work

The hours of work are 29.6 hours per week

Period of notice

The period of written notice required for you to terminate this post is 1 month. The Trust will give you 1 month’s notice.
