FWA JUNE 2017 Report
The section below summarizes the work done during the month of June 2017.
ADMINISTRATIVE TEAM and Capacity Building
On June 12-15, Pastor NTAHUBA Parfaite attended a workshop on post conflicts and GBV trauma and healing for women leaders which took place in NAIROBI, KENYA at the AACC DESMOND TUTU CONFERENCE CENTRE. This workshop was organized by All Africa Conference of Churches (AACC) for African women leaders. We are happy to invite you to this workshop. Attached please find the concept note. The AACC catered for her air ticket, accommodation and meals for the duration of the conference.

The Burundi Red Cross has supported FWA by providing a health mediator to NTASEKA clinic. Ms. NDUWIMANA Consolate will work closely with HORANIMANA Grâce (FWA social worker) in the psychosocial care for people living with HIV/AIDS.

On June 25, 2017, MISAGO Gisèle, one nurse from FWA staff attended the three-week HROC (Healing and Rebuilding Our Communities) international training in Musanze, Rwanda. The purpose is to have more HROC facilitators. Gisèle was chosen to be there as she is walking with HIV positive people who are usually traumatized by their serological status.
ACTIVITIES
During the month of June 2017, the activities done were about READY, RSS, CHIVPP and IWRH projects.
READY
As part of the READY project, different services were offered in the following logic:
24 teenagers from the target group, including 20 female and 4 male, underwent voluntary testing and received information about HIV/AIDS through pre and post-test counseling. We had four young female people from the target group (age between 10 and 19 years) for family planning and related information.110 young people were given information on sexual and reproductive health, and 480 condoms were distributed to young people.
Rape Survivors’ Support (RSS)
Two self-help groups are now functioning. On 28-30 June, 2017, there was one three-day trauma healing workshop for a group of both men and women.
Caring for HIV Positive People (CHIVPP)
During this month of June 2017, medical follow up and home visits were done for our HIV positive people. They also received nutritional support. Two discussion groups were also done on 7 and 9 June, 2017.
Improving Women’s Reproductive Health (IWRH)
FWA health accompanists have continued to sensitize people to attend NTASEKA clinic for birth control and HIV voluntary test. They have even started to sensitize people to know the importance of having toilets in their homes.
Action on Gender-Based Violence (AGBV)
The partnership agreement between the Quaker Service Norway (QSN) and FWA was signed for this year grant.
Medical Team
CONSULTATIONS
19 cases were consulted by our doctor. The nurse received 245 patients including 138 adults and 107 children.
The same month, 19-22, 2017, it was a mother-child week. So, children and pregnant women received Vitamin A and Albendazole. The results were the following:
· 1448 children between 6-59 months received Vitamin A
· 3578 children between 1-14 years received Albendazole
· 192 pregnant women were given both Albendazole and soaps
From the above, it is clear that a total number of 5026 children and 192 pregnant women was achieved
LABORATORY
In the month of June 2017, apart from voluntary testing, there were a total of 188 tests.

FAMILY PLANNING
293 women received contraceptives from FWA’s nurse. 150 received the contraceptive injection, 22 were given pills and 21 received 504 male condoms.
PRE-NATAL CONSULTATION
Three women came for the pre-natal consultation.
ARV SITE
At the end of June 2017, we had 142 patients under retro drugs followed at NTASEKA clinic, including 119 women and 23 men.
PHARMACY
FWA had all necessary medicines for the month of June 2017.
PSYCHOSOCIAL TEAM
In the month of June 2017, a total of 230 people received pre and post HIV test counseling and were tested for HIV; 56% of them were women and among the 14 people detected HIV positive, nine of them were women with 6% of seropositivity.
