TITLE:Household Assistant

RESPONSIBLE TO:Support Services Manager

REPORTS TO: Household Services Manager / Household Supervisors

Role Summary:

  • Vacuum all floors in the following areas: wards, offices, surgeries, milk room, smoke room, lecture /tutorial rooms, corridors, waiting areas, lift, changing rooms etc paying particular attention to the corners, under the furniture, beds etc. All free standing furniture to be moved where possible.
  • Wash all floor areas in the wards etc. as outlined in method statements/work routes.
  • Buff all the floor areas in the wards etc. as outlined in method statements/work routes.
  • Scrub the selected floor areas in rotation as outlined in method statements/work routes.
  • Damp dust all the wards including all the ledges, presses, window sills, skirting boards, light shades, televisions (up to hand height), and doors as outlined in method statements/work routes.
  • Damp dust all ledges on the corridor. Spot check all the walls for stains and splashes, clean polish interior glass as outlined in method statements/work routes.
  • Bathrooms / WC / shower areas washed thoroughly as outlined in method statements/work routes.
  • Empty, wash, reline the bins as outlined in method statements/work routes.
  • Restock the supplies daily as outlined in method statements/work routes.
  • Damp dust all the chairs daily. Clean weekly ensuring that all the stains are removed.
  • Report any missing rubber seals from the chairs to the Household Services Officer to have them repaired and to prevent scratches on the floor.

Key Duties:

Bathrooms / Showers / Toilets / Sluice Room:

  1. Clean thoroughly the basins, showers, wall / tiles, baths, mirrors and toilets. .
  2. Damp dust all the ledges as outlined in method statements/work routes.
  3. Wash the floors as outlined in method statements/work routes.
  4. Clean / polish all internal glass as outlined in method statements/work routes.
  5. Empty, wash, reline the bins as outlined in method statements/work routes.

Surgery:

  1. Damp dust all the ledges as outlined in method statements/work routes.
  2. Wash the floors as outlined in method statements/work routes.
  3. Clean / polish all internal glass as outlined in method statements/work routes.
  4. Empty, wash, reline the bins as outlined in method statements/work routes.

Wards / Private Rooms:

  1. Wash all the wash basins as outlined in method statements/work routes.
  2. Sweep and wash all the floors as outlined in method statements/work routes.
  3. Buff the floors as outlined in method statements/work routes.
  4. Check the walls for marks, stains and splashes as outlined in method statements/work routes.
  5. Damp dust the televisions if within arms reach as outlined in method statements/work routes.
  6. Scrub the floors weekly as outlined in method statements/work routes.
  7. Clean/ polish all internal glass as outlined in method statements/work routes.
  8. Empty, wash, reline the bins as outlined in method statements/work routes.

Corridors:

  1. Wash and buff the floors as outlined in method statements/work routes.
  2. Damp dust the private telephones as outlined in method statements/work routes.
  3. Damp dust the ledges and the skirting boards as outlined in method statements/work routes.

4 Clean/ polish all internal glass as outlined in method statements/work routes.

Nurses Station / Offices(s):

  1. Vacuum ward, buff the floor as outlined in method statements/work routes.
  2. Damp dust the ledges and the skirting boards as outlined in method statements/work routes.
  3. Clean the telephones and the PCs as outlined in method statements/work routes.
  4. Damp dust office furniture, worktops, filing cabinets, and desks as outlined in method

statements/work routes.

  1. Empty, wash, reline the bins as outlined in method statements/work routes.

Stairways:

  1. Damp mop and wash as outlined in method statements/work routes

Be aware of and implement all Policies, Guidelines in relation to Infection Prevention and Control / Decontamination

  • Actively contribute, participate and ensure compliance with the key areas identified in the following:
  • Infection prevention and control / decontamination
  • National Quality/Hygiene Schemes
  • B.F.H.I.

And all audits deemed necessary by the Rotunda Hospital Management Team.

After use, all equipment should be checked, cleaned, dried and returned to the storage area. Remove gloves and wash hands.

These duties and responsibilities are a reflection of the present service requirements and may be subject to review and amendment to meet the changing needs of the Hospital.
