Periodic Table Introduction
What’s the Trend?
*For this introduction to the periodic table, you and your partner need
1 piece of paper per group.
1)Tear a piece of paper into nine pieces, preferable equal size
2)Next you will label the pieces of paper with the following information
numbermass# of starscolor
114.2 3red
2 5.7 1blue
3 6.5 2green
4 8.8 2red
5 3.4 1red
616.5 3blue
711.9 3green
8 1.1 1green
3)Arrange the 8 squares in some logical pattern that is three squares wide and three squares high, counting the ninth square which is missing. The whole numbers correspond to a random order in which I marked the squares.
4)Once you and your partner have the squares arranged, answer the following:
a)List patterns that appear across, down, and diagonally on the grid in terms of mass, color, and # of stars. Put this in your notes.
b)There is an empty space in your grid for the ninth substance. Predict the color, mass, and number of stars for square #9.
c)Draw your squares with the information below (a) and (b). Also put the predicted information for square #9.

Example:
2. Arrange the 8 squares in some logical pattern that is three squares wide and three squares high, counting the ninth square which is missing. The whole numbers correspond to a random order in which I marked the squares.
3. Once you and your partner have the squares arranged, answer the following:
a) List patterns that appear across, down, and diagonally on the grid in terms of
mass, color, and # of smiley faces. Put this in your notes.
b) There is an empty space in your grid for the ninth substance. Predict the color,
mass, and number of smiley faces for square #9.
c) Draw your squares with the information below (a) and (b). Also put the predicted
information for square #9.
