Course Description | TEKS §130.387
Practicum in Marketing (MP) is a series of dynamic activities that focus on the customer to generate a profitable exchange. Through course-required paid or unpaid employment experience, students gain knowledge and skills that help them become proficient in one or more of the marketing functional areas associated with distribution, financing, marketing information management, pricing, product planning, promotion, purchasing, risk management, and selling skills. Students integrate skills from academic subjects, information technology, interpersonal communication, and management training to make responsible decisions. Students will illustrate appropriate management and research skills to create the marketing mix.
An unpaid small business enterprise (SBE) experience will occur on campus for Marketing Practicum students this year. For students traveling off campus for their practicum work experience, a unique set of RISD forms and state employee training plans are required for signature and enforcement. Mrs. Brown will meet individually with these students and parents to discuss policy and procedures and alternate grading weights required for an off-campus employment.
Students in Marketing Practicum will be required to join and participate in DECA, also providing an extended learning experience. DECA is a marketing student organization that prepares leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management. DECA members have the potential to earn scholarships and cash awards and participate in DECA’s competitive events program. Membership information and competitive dates have been listed below.
