PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Assist the Golf Course Superintendent with directing, supervising, and coordinating the care and maintenance of Lakeside Golf Course. Provide professional-level golf maintenance services for the City of Stillwater and Lakeside Golf Course. Ensure that all services are conducted and fulfilled in a manner consistent with the goals and objectives of the City of Stillwater. This position reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

·  Assist the Golf Course Superintendent with planning, directing, coordinating, participating in, and organizing the overall work plan of seasonal staff for the maintenance and repair of Lakeside Golf Course. Assign work activities, projects and programs, review and evaluate work products, methods and procedures; meet with seasonal staff to identify opportunities and resolve problems.

·  Assist in the management responsibility for all maintenance services and activities of the golf course.

·  Assist in the preparation of a maintenance budget, coordinate the implementation of the budget, and participate in the long range forecasting of any additional funds required for staffing, equipment, materials and/or supplies. Assist in the preparation of the Lakeside Golf Course-Master Plan.

·  Evaluate, recommend and select various types of plants, trees, shrubs, grasses, seeds, chemicals and other landscape materials to be used to meet the desired standard of care and appearance.

·  Perform regular analysis on all turf grasses for fungus, insect, and nutritional deficiencies.

·  Supervise watering activities and the application process of all fertilizers, pesticides, and other landscape chemicals; maintain detailed record of all fertilizer and chemical applications.

·  Represent Lakeside Golf Course at various meetings and with the general public.

·  Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

·  High school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree in Turf Management or related field from accredited university, preferred.

·  Minimum of 2 years supervisory experience in an equivalent position.

·  Any combination of education and experience deemed by the City of Stillwater as sufficient to perform the duties of this position.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS & LICENSES REQUIRED:

·  Valid driver’s license. Must obtain Oklahoma license within thirty days of hire.

·  Oklahoma Class 3A Applicator’s license within six months of hire.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

·  Ability to operate a personal computer, printer, facsimile machine, telephone, and various other routine business machines.

·  Knowledge of turf and plant diseases and treatments; a working knowledge of turf grass cultivation and installation

·  Knowledge of the safe and proper application of chemicals and fertilizers.

·  Knowledge of the principles and practices of the construction and maintenance of golf courses.

·  Knowledge of federal, state and local policies, laws codes, and practices relate to the position.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

·  Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays and be on call, if needed.

·  Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.

·  Position involves kneeling stooping, bending, pushing, carrying, and moving objects that can weigh up to 50 pounds.

ENVIRONMENTAL & SAFETY CONCERNS:

·  Work is performed both indoors and outdoors with exposure to all weather conditions.

JOB LOCATION:

·  Duties will be performed primarily at Lakeside Golf Course, with frequent meetings, training, and other activities in other Department and City facilities.

·  Travel outside city limits and/or the state may be required for training, conferences, etc.
