Course Description

This course is designed for secondary school students to develop and enhance touch skills for entering alphabetic, numeric, and symbol information on a keyboard. Students compose and produce a variety of personal, educational, and professional documents.

Course Objectives

Keyboarding Applications is a course designed to give students the tools to:

  • Identify computer system components
  • Key alphabetic, numeric, and symbol information using a touch system and correct techniques
  • Improve keyboarding techniques, complete special forms
  • Merge files, format personal business letters
  • Format business correspondence, and create reports in various styles
  • Create Career/Employment Documents
  • Troubleshoot computer problems

Writing utensils (Pen, pencils)

Folder with loose leaf paper

Portfolio folder for resume, letter of application and other important documents created during the course.

Assignments

  • Major Assessments
  • Timed writings, complete special forms and business various correspondence
  • Projects: internet safety, workplace safety, cultural diversity, copyrights and patents, and employability

Daily Assignments

Warm-ups, daily typing assignments, discussion board entries (online learning), participation, and projects (as assigned), and Quia activities

Homework

Homework prepares students for success and will be assigned at least once per week.

Class Participation

Daily in-class comments, helpfulness, small group work, preparationfor class, on task behaviors will be included in a once per week participation grade.

Class Participation:

Students are expected to participate in group projects, smart board learning and will be receive a participation grade for their contributions

Late Work or Missing Work:

Late assignments will be deducted 10% for each late day up to a maximum of three days.

Academic Support

Students may report to room 201 as early as 8:10 a.m. to make-up assignments or obtain assistance. Please let me know if you plan to come in early because there are a limited number of computers located in room 201.
