Washington State Regions Research Project
You will create an electronic brochure for one of Washington State’s five major regions (Coastal Region, Puget Sound Lowlands, Cascade Mountains, Columbia Plateau, Okanogan Highlands). Remember, travel brochures try to convince people to go to a particular place – you will need to think of yourself as a salesperson whose livelihood depends on getting people to travel or move to your region. Use your creativity and HAVE FUN!!! We will use the “Google Slides” program in your Google drive to create your brochure.
These are the things you need to include in your electronic brochure:
Ø Title Slide
· Title (the name of your chosen region)
· Author (your name)
· Map of the region with important places & features identified
Ø Introduction
· Gives an overall picture or impression of what you will describe in the body of the slide show. Hook the readers in by explaining why this region is important or by revealing a surprising fact about the region. Let the reader know what subtopics they will be learning about in the body of your project.
Ø Body (Include at least one slide for each of these subtopics. Include specific facts, details, names, and ideas in each of these slides. Use vivid adjectives & adverbs, strong verbs, and figurative language to “show” instead of “tell.” Write sentences with varied beginnings, length, and structure. Use transitions to help readers understand how different information is connected to one another.)
· Description of the geography (such as rivers, lakes, mountains, plains, deserts, forests, etc.)
· Description of the climate (temperature, precipitation, etc.)
· Description of major business/industry (in other words, what different things do many people in your region do to earn a living?)
· Description of the recreation (what do people do for fun that is particular to your region?)
· Conclusion
· Remind the readers of the subject and the subtopics that you’ve described. Add your own thoughts, feelings, and/or questions about the region.
Ø Graphics (these should be found throughout your slide show)
· Communicates the essence of the topic or subtopics
· At least one per slide
Ø Bibliography (Final slide -- use the format given in class. You must use at least 3 different sources.)
Your slide show should include details about all four major categories listed above. Make your brochure as colorful and eye-catching as you can. Remember, have fun and be creative!!!
