Head of Derbyshire Cricket Board

Derbyshire Cricket Board Ltd (DCB) is the Governing Body for recreational cricket in Derbyshire, delivering services in support of the cricket community across the county. It is one of 39 County Cricket Boards in England & Wales, and works in partnership with a number of key stakeholders to develop the recreational game locally in line with the strategy developed by the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

The Head of DCB will lead the staff of the DCB and will report to the Directors of the company. The Head of DCB will take a full role in the Directors’ meetings of the DCB.

The Head of DCB will be central to driving collaborative working relationships across all cricket’s stakeholders in Derbyshire, therefore maximising the games collective resources to achieve a sustainable growth in cricket participation in the region. This will include local implementation of the ECB plan to deliver “more play” by focussing on four strategic areas.

Clubs – create outstanding experiences for all participants in clubs

Kids – inspire the next generation to take up a life long association with the game

Communities - diversify our participation base to ensure cricket is at the heart of ourcommunities

Casual cricket - provide more opportunities for people to play formats of the game that suit their lifestyles

The Head of DCB will work with the staff, members of the new ECB regional team, and other stakeholders to establish and deliver a plan which focusses on these themes, and the County Age Group and District player pathway for young cricketers.

It is planned that the DCB Offices will move from the Town Hall, Ripley to the 3aaa County Ground in Derby during Autumn 2016. At that point this will be the primary work location for the Head of DCB, but the role will require travel on a regular basis as the role will be proactive in engaging stakeholders across Derbyshire in support of the DCB strategy and business plan. This will include participation in activities at evenings and weekend when required.

Key Accountabilities

Day-to-day accountability for the operations of the DCB will be largely discharged through the staff of the DCB. However, the Head of DCB will retain overall accountability for the following:

  • The development and delivery of the strategy and business plan for recreational cricket in Derbyshire, in line with the broader ECB strategy.
  • The ongoing monitoring of performance against the business plan, ensuring that committed outcomes are achieved, resources are effectively utilised, and opportunities for improved outcomes and growth are realised.
  • The governance of the operations of the DCB, including effective financial and budgetary control, compliance with all health and safety, welfare and safeguarding requirements, and adherence to the standards of conduct outlined by the DCB and ECB.
  • Management responsibility for the staff of the DCB, including creating an inclusive environment which enables all staff to maximise their contribution, both individually and collectively. This will include regular reviews on progress against objectives, and implementing development plans for staff.
  • Working with the ECB at a regional and national level where appropriate to ensure activities are aligned in support of the broader ECB strategy.
  • Interfacing with Derbyshire County Cricket Club, and other local agencies and stakeholders to ensure that DCB activities are aligned and supporting a single plan for cricket in Derbyshire.
  • Communicating and promoting the activities of the DCB and, where appropriate, the ECB. This will include sharing information and best-practice with clubs, district cricket development groups, Leagues, Coaches Association, and other groups in Derbyshire. This will involve managing appropriate communication channels, and responding to media enquiries, as appropriate.
  • Managing the interface with the Chairman and the Board of Directors of the DCB, to ensure that they are appropriately informed and able to effectively discharge their responsibilities for the governance and strategy of the DCB.
  • Other tasks or duties that may be required from time to time to support the management of the business of the DCB.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Excellent knowledge and experience of strategic business planning and implementation, monitoring & evaluation systems, and business processes.
  • Experience of managing people, programmes and budgets.
  • Good knowledge and experience of budget control, financial management and effective business governance.
  • Experience of accessing new funding streams and business development to support new programmes.
  • Knowledge of ECB Strategy for cricket in England and Wales.
  • A qualified sports coach, preferably in cricket.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of national, regional and local cricket and sports development policy.
  • Prior experience of involvement in recreational sport, and an understanding of working with a broad network of volunteers to establish a safe and enjoyable environment for all involved.
  • Demonstrable experience in building sustainable partnerships
  • Demonstrable team leadership and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively across a multi-agency professional and volunteer network.
  • A full driving Licence

Remuneration

Up to £45,000 pa dependant on experience.
