Bob understands the positive impact Maggie’s can make, he is the Chair of Maggie’s Fife Associate Fundraising Board and is committed to help Maggie’s continue our work in Fife by organising this challenge.

Dr Bob could have benefited from a place like Maggie’s when he was diagnosed with cancer. In 1961 an X-ray discovered he had non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in his thigh-bone (femur). Bob spent several weeks in hospital in Aberdeen and Edinburgh receiving radio therapy in his leg. The hospital experience back then was “quite difficult”. Radiotherapy can affect both blood vessels and the lymphatic vessels, and the effects can last for the rest of a person’s life. As a result of this Bob had ongoing trouble with his leg it had become infected on many occasions so in 2002 he decided to get it amputated.

Despite the amputation Bob wanted to do something that would make a difference to others, so came up with organising a walk. This will be the fourth walk he has organised, and the third time he has chosen Maggie’s as the beneficiary. Each time the walk is organised, it is different. This time, the walk will be a 108 mile Maggie’s to Maggie’s challenge where walkers will visit Maggie’s Edinburgh, Maggie’s Fife and Maggie’s Dundee walking along the route of the Fife coastal path. Dr Bob will do the challenge on his crutches with his team of 20 core walkers, walking alongside him. In addition to this, walkers will be joined by ultra runners Jonny and Sheena Logan who will run the entire route within 24 hours, mountain bikers, and the Dunedin Harley Davidson Chapter who will do a ride out on the last day of the walk.

Your company can help make a difference by sponsoring walkers or the walk t-shirts. For £250 your logo can appear on the back of each t-shirt.
