PROGRAM: This is a car-camp outing and river rafting adventure. We will camp at Wenatchee Confluence State Park off Hwy 2 Friday and Saturday night. On Saturday, June 23th, we will go from the campground to Leavenworth for a rafting trip on the Wenatchee River with Blue Sky Outfitters. We will depart the campground at 11:30 am sharp and drive about 30 minutes to Leavenworth for the 1:30 PM rafting trip. The rafting trip lasts 3 to 4 hours with dinner afterwards provided by Blue Sky. There will be a Campfire program Friday and Saturday night. Planning will take place at the final Troop Meeting June 1st.
ROUTE: About a 3 hour drive to Wenatchee Confluence State Park Located on US Highway 285 in Wenatchee, Washington. Take I-5 to I-90. After Cle Elum, Take Exit 85 WA-970 N. Turn Left onto 970 bear left onto Hwy 97 near Tenaway. Take Hwy 97 to the junction with Route 2 and turn right to Wenatchee. Saturday at 11:30 AM drive Route 2 about 30minutes to Leavenworth to meet up with Blue Sky Outfitters for rafting which starts at 1:30 PM.
EQUIPMENT: Bring day pack with extra clothing to change into after the rafting- you will get wet. Bring polypropylene tops to wear rafting, and sun screen. Farmer John style wet suits will be provided by the Outfitters. Dinner is at Riverside Park. Afterwards, there’s plenty of time and open space for Frisbee, soccer, flying kites, etc.
Camping: Patrols are required to bring sufficient tents, tarps and dining fly, sufficient large water containers, and coordinate cooking gear, stoves and fuel. Campfires are permitted in designated rings. Scouts must be prepared for potential cool wet weather or hot dry weather (check the weather reports the day before the outing). Troop 166 practices Leave No Trace – i.e. leave only footprints, take only pictures – so bring garbage bags, and plan carefully. Bring your 10+ essentials including extra clothing and rain gear for possible conditions, sun protection, map (provided) and compass, water bottle, trail food, waterproof matches and fire starters, a pocketknife, first-aid kit, flashlight and batteries, overnight camping gear including a warm sleeping bag and an insulating pad. The East side in June is often buggy so bring bug spray and plan to sleep in a tent. Bring polypropylene, fleece and other synthetics for the rafting trip and weather depending for camping too.
FOOD Bring a sack meal for Friday evening or patrols can arrange to stop for dinner. Patrols plan to cook breakfast Saturday and Sunday Morning you will also need to plan a light lunch for Saturday. A Steak Dinner Saturday night is provided by Blue Sky Outfitters. You may want snacks after returning to the campground. Each patrol will invite an adult to join them for both Breakfasts and Saturday lunch. Provide your own snacks, and sack lunches for Friday . Patrols can make arrangements to stop for Sunday lunch
FEE Due to the high cost of this outing, Scouts will each pay $40.00 to cover transportation, camping, and the rafting trip's expense and Adults who drive will pay $96.00. Adults not select to drive scouts will pay the $96.00 also. To minimize expenses, preference for drivers will be given to those with vehicles capable of carrying the most passengers. Sign up is first come first serve. Provide an additional $10.00 CASH - or whatever your patrol decides - to your patrol (all adults, too) for food expenses. Scholarships are available- speak with Bill Montgomery.
