MHMHA Novice 1

Director Report – 2014/2015

Director: Aaron Bowal

Teams:

o  We had 7 teams made up of 12 to 13 players.

o  82 males and 6 females for a total of 88 players.

o  The 6 females were paired and placed on 3 of the 7 teams.

Coaches

o  Thank you to all the coaches from MHMHA

o  All 7 teams had capable coaching staffs which were made up of 3 or 4 pre-signed groups.

o  Continuation of Respect in Sport-Coach

o  Good turn out to Hockey Alberta seminar in January (~35 Novice coaches attended)

o  No issue with finding enough coaches for the N1 teams. A lot of coaches signed up in advance.

‘Competition via Parody’

o  Pre-season evaluation skate was utilized in combination with ‘13-‘14 coach’s evaluations for team building.

o  Goaltending: All kids were encouraged to try the goaltender position. A number of kids across the league have taken to the position which is good for our future.

Dodge Caravan Kids

o  Mandatory Novice involvement. All 7 N1 teams participated.

o  late October 2014 (Jackson Dodge-Chrysler sponsor)

o  totaled ~$3150 for MHMHA Novice 1 teams

Home Tournament (March 6, 7 & 8)

o  16 teams: (~ Tiers 5/6 accepted)

o  7 MH teams did very well overall in tournament

Review of 2014-2015 Season

Ø  Novice was once again made up of single age catchments (N1 2007’s & N2 2006’s) - again deemed very successful.

Ø  Formula for team building is accurate- requires attentive coach evaluations & pre-season evaluations’.

Ø  Improve equality with a second weekend of scrimmages BEFORE player placement for 2015/2016 season?

Ø  Difficulties with monthly schedule: late receiving schedule, total # of ice times, shared rotation of “early ice”, etc

I would like to thank all of our coaches, managers, tournament volunteers, parents and players for making this season a huge success!

Thank You,

Aaron Bowal
