Charter School Student Art Contest Guidelines and Rules

How it Works

In conjunction with the 2015 Colorado Charter Schools Rally at the State Capitol on April 16, the Colorado League of Charter Schools is hosting a student art contest. There are five age categories. One grand prize winner will be chosen from each age group and their artworkbe featured in a League publication. Additionally, each winner will be introduced during the rally and asked to speak briefly about their artwork. There will also be three runners up in each age category. All grand prize winners will be honored at the Colorado State Capitol on Thursday, April 16, 2015, during the Colorado Charter Schools Rally. All winning artwork will be featured on the League website and will be displayed in the Colorado State Capitol during the week of April 13 – 16, 2015. Winners will be notified via a phone call or email to their teacher and/or parent/guardian at least 10 days prior to the rally so they can make appropriate arrangements to attend the event.

Age Categories / Submission Requirements

Grades 9-12–Grand Prize Winner will receive a $500 scholarship and winning artwork will be featured on the cover of Charter Focus Magazine, fall 2015

TOPIC: Submit a piece of artworkillustrating who you aspire to be in the future, specifically in terms of how you would like to take on a leadership role, or how you would like to impact the world, as a result of the foundation and preparation that you’re receiving from your charter school. Maximum size 12” X 18”.

Grades 6–8 – Grand Prize Winner will receive a $250 scholarship and winning artwork will be featured on the cover of thewinter 2015 issue of Charter Focus Magazine

TOPIC: Submit a piece of artwork illustratingthe leader you aspire to be in high school, college, or when you grow up, or illustrate someone in your school community who you admire as a great leader.

Grades 3-5 – Grand Prize Winner will receive a $250 scholarship and winning artwork will be featured on the cover ofthespring 2016 issue of Charter Focus Magazine

How to Enter

Rules

  1. Artwork must by 8-1/2” X 11” (with the exception of grades 9-12 which can be a max. of 12” x 18”) and can be illustrated using paints, crayons, or pencils. Artwork may be mounted, but not framed, and must be portrait orientation, not landscape. Artwork must be original student workand neither duplicated nor copied from previously published art or published photographs.No digital or computer generated artwork can be submitted.
  2. Place a small label on the front of the art with the student name, school, and grade.
  3. Students must be currently enrolled in a Colorado charter school in order to enter.
  4. Only one entry per student.
  5. Entries must be postmarked by March 20, 2015.
  6. Winning students must be willing/able to travel to the Colorado State Capitol for celebration of their award on Thursday, April 16, 2015.
  7. Entry forms must be signed by either the student’s teacher and/or parent/guardian.
  8. Artwork will become the property of the Colorado League of Charter Schools, and will be used in marketing materials by the Colorado League of Charter Schools and/or S & S Worldwide.
