POLLING PLACE JUDGE'S CHECKLIST
6:15 a.m. to 6:30 a.m.
Election Judges arrive.
NOTE: For elections using voting machines, the Election Judges shall meet at the polling place at least 45 minutes before the opening of the polls.
6:15 a.m. to 6:45 a.m.
Set up election area in the following general order:
Voting Instructions and Sample Ballots
Voter Self Affirmations
Lists of registered voters and property owners
Poll Book
Voting booths/voting machines
Ballot box
Post "100 Foot Limit", "Instructions to Voters" and “Sample Ballot”. Make sure the "Polling Place" sign posted 20 days earlier is still in place.
IMPORTANT REMINDER: Arrange voting booths/voting machines and ballot boxes so they are visible to all Election Judges. Arrange voting booths/voting machines so that no other person besides the Election Judges or the elector casting the ballot is within six feet (6’) of the voting area.
6:30 a.m. to 6:45 a.m.
Determine duties to be performed by each Election Judge. Suggested division of duties is as follows, however, you may combine any duties as necessary:
Voter Self Affirmation assistance
Verification of registration and/or property ownership
Poll Book entry and ballot distribution
Voting booth assistance and ballot box assistance
Administer Judges’ Oaths. Each Judge shall execute an Oath of Election Judge and attach to pollbook.
6:55 a.m.
Open ballot box and turn upside down to empty.
Lock ballot box securely.
7:00 a.m.
Proclaim the polls open.
7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
___Assist voters as required.
Absenteeand UOCAVA ballots are delivered to polling place, unless previously received from Designated Election Official; verification of such ballots may begin.
For elections with Counting Judges, counting may commence as necessary.
6:30 p.m.
Proclaim the polls will be closing in 30 minutes.
7:00 p.m.
Announce in a clear and audible voice that the polls are closed.
Mark the end of the line of voters who were in line at 7:00 p.m. Those persons in line at 7:00 p.m. shall be allowed to vote.
After 7:00 p.m.
Tally/count votes.
Complete Judges Unofficial Abstract of Votes and post in conspicuous location that can be seen from the outside of the polling place location.
Complete Judges Certificate of Election Returns and Statement of Ballots.
Seal the counted ballots and one copy of the Tally Sheet in a separate box or large envelope. Each Election Judge shall place their initials or signatures on the seal.
After counting has been completed and all forms have been completed and signed,
the designated Election Judge shall return all items to the Designated Election Official.
