Terrain,map & control descriptions

What a cracking wee bit of terrain we have for you to enjoy! First used way back in 1985 this area is a small quality gem a bit like Faskally. The map – STAG Map No.259 was jointly funded by STAG & ESOC & surveyed based on Lidar data in June 2014 by Stirling Surveys & updated by T.O’Brien, February 2015. Several areas of Out of Bounds are red hatched as these fields contain livestock & must not be entered. All maps are printed at a scale 1:7500 & A4 in size. Power lines are NOT shown on the map. Maps & control descriptions are printed on waterproof paper. Pockets of windblow are shown by use of the undergrowth screen symbol of green vertical lines.

On the Day

Pre-entered competitors with their own SI finger may go directly to the start. Competitors “hiring” SI fingers need to come to REGISTRATION as do White & Yellow competitors to collect their map & loose control descriptions.

SI- card hire and changes

Collect hired SI-cards from Registration. Loss of a hired SI-card will result in a charge of £30. Please check the SI-card number on your Start Time sheet. Inform T.O’Brien by email no later than 10pm on Wednesday 18thMarch if, for any reason, you will be using a different card at the event.

Entry on the Day is only available for Light Green, Orange, Yellow & White Courses with a fee of £5 per course irrespective of Adult or Junior.

Free String Course is located to the west of the Caravan Park in the area Known as Faskally West Woods which also incorporates some open land.

Route to Start – There is No Clothing Transfer but a Clothing Dump

Shall be taped with “STAG TAPE” from the Car Park to the “Kissing Gate as shown on the map on Page 4. Turn LEFT on to the pavement & follow this north for 400m, turn LEFT over the Garry Bridge then cross over the B8019 & walk down the 39 Steps(?) to the footpaths on the west side of the River Garry.

From here the route follows a narrow path to the Start with the actual Pre-Start being on the shingle beach. Competitors should Warm Up in the area to THE NORTH of the Garry Bridge where there is a little more space available before arriving at the Start around 10 minutes prior to their Start Time.

Start Area

Is located on the western shore of the River Garry, 400m south of the Garry Bridge. Competitors shall be called up 4 minutes before starting. Blank maps & loose descriptions shall be available on entering the Start system.

Cancellation

Refunds will be at the discretion of the Event Organiser. Should the event be cancelled, the Organisers reserve the right to retain all or part of the entry fee to cover committed costs.

Finish Procedure & Retirals

Your run will be timed when you ‘punch’ at one of the SI-Base Stations at the Finish line. Make certain your punch has registered and that it is not the bleep of another close finisher that you heard. Return to REGISTRATION in the Caravan Park and then obtain your split times printout. See map on Page 5 re. downloading. All competitors must pass through the Finish system whether or not they have completed their course.

Results – The type of display is weather dependant.

Possibly only computer printouts – without split times – will be displayed at intervals on boards adjacent to REGISTRATION. Full results, Winsplits & Routegadget shall be posted on the STAG Web Site - www.stag-orienteering.co.uk hopefully on Sunday evening on our return to Glasgow.

Protests and Complaints

There is a procedure which all competitors should follow if they feel that the Rules are not being followed.
Any complaint should initially be discussed with the Event Organiser. However any approach should bear in mind that Event Officials are volunteers who have given up their valuable time to lay on the event, often under circumstances which are not ideal.
If the complaint is not resolved satisfactorily then a protest can be lodged with the Controller. The Controller will then, if necessary, convene a Jury

Safety

St.Andrew’s Ambulance Corps shall be in attendance. Competitors are advised to wear full leg cover and reminded that they take part at their own risk.
