GENERAL MANAGER

Parys Golf and Country Estate (PG&CE) is an exclusive and secure residential golf estate is set in one of the most exceptional and beautiful heritage sites in the world. The estate is set partially on an island in the Vaal River and partially on the main land, making it one of the most sought after real estate opportunities in South Africa. The estate is one hour's drive from Johannesburg which means that it is far enough to feel like you are away from home, but close enough to stay in touch.

PG&CE seeks to appoint a new General Manager to lead the Home Owners Association and Golf Club in the achievement of agreed strategic goals and objectives, relating to their cost-effective management and long term sustainability.

The General Manager would oversee and coordinate the specific goals of a strong team to ensure objectives are met within an agreed budget.

The role reports to a Board, with full responsibility including its financial wellbeing, and the provision of world class stakeholder and customer service levels.

The position carries responsibility for:

  • Financial management and all commercial activities;
  • Stakeholder management;
  • Providing leadership, direction and management to the Homeowners Association, Golf Club and Restaurant functional leaders, with the emphasis on continued building of a cohesive and well-motivated team; and
  • Overseeing the day-to-day management of all three entities.

The operational and functional activities include financial planning and management, the key security portfolio, estate management marketing, food and beverage, and ongoing communications with stakeholders, members, the industry/market and the broader tourism sector.

The appointee will be a seasoned and mature person, preferably from within the service or hospitality industries, but with proven leadership ability; a strong and diplomatic personality with the patience and tenacity to earn the respect of the homeowners and club members so as to enforce the rules and regulations in a diplomatic and professional manner; and strong commercial and business management skills.

His role in terms of his responsibilities:

  • Ensure that the team is motivated and perform their duties in a professional manner;
  • Manage the budget of the Estate and compliance with approval governance;
  • Ensure that all maintenance of the all properties, equipment, vehicle and parks is done on a regular basis;
  • Ensure that all contracts with service providers are managed efficiently and effectively;
  • Communication with Homeowners is done on a regular basis;
  • Ensure that all emergency procedures are in place, implemented and managed;
  • Manage short and long term projects;
  • Liaise with Municipality and other stakeholders;
  • Ensure that all architectural procedures are in place, implemented and the approval process is managed; and
  • Ensure that all security procedures are in place, implemented and consequence management is done.

Key selection criteria include:

  • General management experience resulting in convincing evidence of operational delivery;
  • Experience in/knowledge of many of the following specialist areas: financial planning and accounting, human resource management, property administration and security, hospitality and events management, legal matters and architectural plans;
  • Excellent relationship builder and diplomat in handling diverse stakeholders;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, adaptable for a wide range of situations and stakeholders;
  • Leadership skills - proven ability to lead and inspire teams;
  • A leader by example - who will instill an ethos of discipline, loyalty, and a willingness to make decisions and communicate these, preferably on a one-on-one basis;
  • Innovative, practical thinker and problem-solver, with an attention to detail; and
  • Experience in the service or hospitality industries would be an advantage but not essential.
