Abstract: / This liaison contains summary of progress on the leading roles of ITU-T SG2

As agreed in WTSA-16 and reflected in WTSA Resolution 2, ITU-T Study Group 2 is the lead ITU-T Study Group in the following specific areas of study:

  • Lead study group on numbering, naming, addressing, identification and routing
  • Lead study group on service definition
  • Lead study group on telecommunications for disaster relief/early warning, network resilience and recovery
  • Lead study group on telecommunication management

In its lead role, SG2 responds to the requirements of other Study Groups on issues related to these areas.

As toNNAI, the relevant NNAI experts continue to provide guidance to the TSB Director on requests to modify, assign and reclaim Global Numbering Resources, for example the codes behind Shared Country Codes.

In its meeting of March 2017, ITU-T SG2 has made progress in these areas. Requests to requalify for extension of number resources, as well as new requests, in particular requests for M2M/IoT numbers were handled and guidance to the NCT was provided.

For routing, Q2/2 looked at the integrity of geographic numbers on the matter of the credibility of the calling party number.

As to Service, there was a contribution regarding emergency telecommunications systems and a copy was sent to ITU-D via liaison and Q3/2 had discussions aboutthe limited use of voice with M2M/IoT numbers in regards to emergency services.

In its lead role as Lead Study Group for Telecommunication Management, SG2 maintains the Telecommunication Management and OAM Project Plan, which documents Management and OAM standardization activities going on inside SG2 as well as in the wider ITU-T community. This plan is liaised regularly to relevant Study Groups. In ITU-T SG2’s meeting of March 2017, progress was made on a number of the issues on telecommunication management. These include progress on M.3020 (revision) (consent), X.760 (ex. X.mfsiwt) (for further development), M.cbnmsa (for further development) and agreement on new work items M.rtafm, M.rrmctm, M.rdm, and M.inomsa.Telecom Management and OAM Project Plan was updated, which is contained in the document TD 117 (GEN/2).

SG2 also cooperates with external organizations, for example, 3GPP and GSMA on NNAI activities that are of benefit to consumers and all relevant parties, as well as with ETSI to ensure synergies to meet the requirements of users. As part of its responsibilities for NNAI SG2 seeks to meet the requirements of future services and applications in this area. SG2 also cooperate with 3GPP on harmonization of management interface specification methodology.
