Study Guide
Reporting and registration
New Students
When new students arrive, after they have displayed their notice of admission and paid tuition fees they are to proceed to their department to register. If you are unable to register on time, please submit written notice to the Foreign Students Office before the registration date. The registration period can only be extended by up to two weeks, if the registration is not completed within this period, the student is automatically taken as having cancelled their application.
New students who need to apply for visas and/or residence permits should take their notice of admission with registration stamp to the Foreign Students Office to get a foreign student certificate application form.《外国籍学生办证申请函》Within a set period of time the student must report to the Shanghai Exit-Entry Administration Bureau to apply for a visa and/or residence permit.
Students living off-campus must report to the Foreign Students Office to apply for off-campus residence.
Current Students
At the beginning of each semester, each student must report to his or her department for registration. If you are unable to register on time, please submit written notice to the Foreign Students Office before the registration date. The registration period can only be extended by up to two weeks, if the registration is not completed within this period; the student is automatically taken as having cancelled their application.
①Students must have paid tuition fees or they cannot register
②Students must report in person and display their student I.D. on the day of registration. The department staff will add a registration stamp to the student I.D., without which the registration is invalid.
③New students who need to apply for visas and/or residence permits should take their notice of admission with registration stamp and their passport to the Foreign Students Office to get a foreign student certificate application form《外国籍学生办证申请函》.
④Students living off-campus and students who need to change their address must report to the Foreign Students Office in a timely manner to apply for off-campus residence.

Non-degree Students
Foreign students can report to their departments to apply for electives within a set period. Application procedure: fill in the Fudan University Foreign Student (non-degree) course selection form《复旦大学外国留学生(非学历)选课表》, the department will enter the information into the foreign student information management system.
For courses that are not provided by your department, it is necessary get approval from both your department and the department providing the course separately, and then submit this approval to the FSO to be put on record.
The FSO website has a list of elective courses for non-degree students available for download at . Students can also report to the FSO office to get a copy of the list.

Procedure for changes in student status / course content
Degree students
Undergraduate and postgraduate students must follow the Fudan University Undergraduate Administrative Provisions (Draft)《复旦大学本科生学籍管理规定(试行)》and the Fudan University Postgraduate Administrative Provisions (Draft)《复旦大学研究生学籍管理规定(试行)》when applying for changes such as changing of major, resumption and abandonment of studies etc.
Please consult the department concerned for more detailed advice.
Non-degree students
Non-degree students can change the following course content: Change major, program, department, extend course length, end course etc.
Non-degree students can only make changes a month before the end of the semester. The FSO will provide more detailed information, please pay attention to any notices.
Non-degree students wishing to make changes should fill in an application form to be given to their department, as well as to the FSO for their records.
The FSO website (http”// has application forms available for download. Students can also report to the FSO to get a copy of the form.
If there are any problems during the application process, please report to the FSO as soon as possible.

Certificates, Records and other documents
Foreign students’ certificates and records are both important identity documents and give you access to the services provided by the university. These important documents include your student ID, student card, Certificate Proving Current University Student Status, Academic Record, Course Completion Certificate and Graduation Diploma.
Student ID (Red)学生证(红色)
The student ID is an important form of identification. Every semester the registration and other procedures all require students to produce their student ID. Students should keep their student ID on their person at all times and should not lend it to others. If you lose your student ID you should immediately replace it.
Undergraduate students of 06 (except students of the International Cultural Exchange School) should report to the test center (HanDan campus, accounts centre, first floor) [考务中心(邯郸校区计算中心一楼)] to get their student ID. Students of 05, 04 and 03 should report to the FSO.06
Post-graduate students should report to the Postgraduate campus (Building 8) [研究生院(8号楼)] toget their student ID.
Non-degree students (except for students of the International Cultural Exchange School) should report to the FSO to get their student ID.
Students of the International Cultural Exchange School should report to the school to get their student ID.
Students need to fill in an application form, provide a 1” passport-sized photograph and pay a fee of 11 RMB. The process usually takes 5 working days.
All purpose card (green card)校园一卡通(绿色)
Undergraduate and postgraduate students can use the student card in the school cafeteria and for accessing the library; non-degree students can only use the card for the cafeteria, if you wish to use the library please report to the department.
Please report to the cafeteria recharge counter to recharge the card.
If the card is lost, Handan campus students should report to Building no. 10, room 111[10号楼111室], Tel: 55664868. Fenglin campus students should report to building no. 18, room 115[18号楼115室].
Certificate Proving Current University Student Status
在学证明书
Students who have already registered should report to the FSO to get a Chinese version of the Certificate Proving Current University Student Status.
Academic Record成绩单
Can be obtained at the relevant department.
Course Completion Certificate结业证书
Non-degree students (excluding students of the International Cultural Exchange School) course completion certificates are produced by the FSO and distributed by the relevant departments. Non-degree students can report to their departments to get the certificates at the end of their course.
For students of the International Cultural Exchange School, the school both produces and distributes the certificates.
Graduation Diploma毕业证书
The academic administration [教务处]produces the diplomas, while each department is responsible for distribution.
The FSO is responsible for the production and distribution of the diplomas.
A friendly reminder from the FSO:
If you need an English version of any of the documents, please give the original document to the Foreign Languages department [外文学院(文科楼4楼)] for translation , or you can translate it yourself and take it to the Foreign Affairs office (second floor of the Majinming building) [外事处(马锦明楼2楼)]. For the Fenglin campus, please report to the emigration office on the third floor of the Zhidao building [治道楼二楼出国出境服务中心].
Terminating studies
Students who have finished their courses or for some other reason are unable to continue their studies and need to leave the university should adhere to the following procedures.
Degree students学历生
Undergraduates (excluding students of the International Cultural Exchange School), and postgraduate students who wish to terminate their studies should follow the regulations of the academic administration.
If problems arise, please immediately contact the relevant department.
Students of the International Cultural Exchange School can immediately terminate their studies at the school.
Non-degree students非学历生
Students who have finished their course should do as follows:
1)Fill in the leaving institution form《离校手续单》
2)The FSO will handle your Student ID and visa cancellation or change of residence permit
3)Cancel library privileges
4)Return of materials to the laboratories and research rooms.
Students who wish to terminate their studies before the their studies are completed should:
1)Fill in the application for termination of studies《终止进修申请表》, get permission from the department and report to the FSO to handle cancellation of visa and change of residence permit.
2)Fill in the leaving institution form《离校手续单》, deal with all related issues.

Students must provide a completed leaving institution form before they canget certificates and academic records from their departments.
Fudan University Classroom Protocol
When attending classes, students should obey the following regulations:
1、Enter class early and prepare for the lesson.
2、Students should be dressed neatly.
3、Latecomers should first notify the lecturer, only after receiving permission should they be seated.
4、Students should respond to the lecturer’s roll call.
5、Students should pay attention in class, the use of mobile phones, pagers and other communication equipment is forbidden; students should maintain silence in the class, refrain from eating and drinking, or participating in activities that don’t pertain to the content of the class.
6、Students should not leave early. In special circumstances it is necessary to first get the teachers permission before exiting the classroom.
Fudan University Examination Venue Regulations
1.When writing all examinations, students should bring their student ID or passport to the test venue and placed on the table in front of you to be checked by the supervising teachers. Those who do not have the required documents will not be allowed to write.
2.Students should enter the venue 10 minutes before the start of the test, students who arrive later than 10 minutes after the start of the test will be prevented from writing.
3.Students must sit as directed by the supervising teacher, students should be seated with at least one empty space between them and the next person. Students who fail to heed the instructions of the supervisors will not be allowed to write.
4.After the papers are distributed students are only allowed to be in possession of necessary items. Cell phones, pagers, laptop computers, electronic dictionaries etc cannot be used in the examination venue and books, notebooks, paper and bags etc should all be left in the indicated place. During the test students should not whisper, exchange notes, signal to each other, violate the examination rules or cheat in any way.
5.Once the test has started silence should be maintained in the test venue. No noise should be made, no moving around unless directed by a supervisor, and if it is necessary to ask a question, students should raise their hands. No student may leave until the test papers have been handed in.
6.During the test no student may look at another students test paper or plagiarize. Once the test has started students are not allowed to borrow anything from other students. Students who are do so will be seen as having cheated and will be punished accordingly. Both parties will be prevented from writing and punishment can be extended to the expulsion of the students.
7.Students must hand in their papers in the allocated time. Students who exceed the time limit will be taken as being absent.
8.Supervising teachers have the right to deal with violators of the examination regulations as they see fit.
9.Supervising teachers have to fulfill their duties, namely, by being at the examination venue 15 minutes before the start of the examination, they are not allowed to be late or to leave early, and by ensuring that the venue is in order. The supervisors also undertake to ensure that all the details on the students examination papers are correct. Supervisors should not chat, read newspapers or books, or engage in other activities during the examination. They should immediately deal with any information pertaining to the content of the tests written on the tables at the venue.
10.The university will exact harsh punishment on supervisors that fail in their duties, assist students or give preferential treatment to certain students.
Foreign Non-Degree Student Regulations
I General Rules
Article1These regulations are in accordance with the Fudan University Foreign Student Management Statutes《复旦大学外国留学生管理条例》
Article2These regulations apply to all foreign students who are not degree students of advanced language courses, professional courses or internships. Foreign students are divided into the following five categories: Language students, ordinary students, high-level students, postgraduate students, and short-term students.
II Check in and registration process
Article3When new students arrive they must present their letters of acceptance, pay their students’ fees then proceed to the relevant departments for the registration procedure. If students are unable to attend registration they should hand in a written application to the FSO. The period of registration can only be extended by two weeks, students who have still not registered by this point are automatically assumed to have forfeited their rights to study.
New students who need to apply for visas and/or residence permits should take their notice of admission with registration stamp to the Foreign Students Office to get a foreign student certificate application form《外国籍学生办证申请函》. Within a set period of time the student must report to the Shanghai Exit-Entry Administration Bureau to apply for a visa and/or residence permit [签证和居留许可].
Students living off-campus must report to the Foreign Students office to apply for off-campus residence.
