Kathleen Clarke

Nga Mhi ki a koutou katoa

My name is Kathleen Clark. My partner Dan iel and I have a 4 year old son who attends Crawshaw Kindergarten and we are becoming increasingly aware of the up and coming decision we face to decide where our son will be educated for his primary school years.

I am currently studying towards a Certificate in Social Work at Te Wananga o Aotearoa, with intentions of moving into the Dehgree programme next year. I have experience in teacher aiding and Early Childhood teaching (whilst training) and currently relieve in an Early Childhood Centre from time to time.

As an ex-pupil of Crawshaw Primary I have a strong connection to the school that helped shape me as an adult. Crawshaw has schooled my two older siblings, my two younger siblings and my youngest brother is in his final year as a Year 8 student here.

My mum is a long standing staff member of Crawshaw School and also stood as a Board of Trustees member for Crawshaw for 20+ years. Our whanau are passionate about the future and direction of the community we grew up in and the people that we live amongst.

Being a whanau who were all taught in Whanau 2 (the bi-lingual/ reo rua unit) I am particularly interested in the vision and future development of kaupapa Maori within the school. Whanau involvement and imput in important school and community matters is something I see as important and necessary to building positive relationships between home and school.

My life time connection to Crawshaw School and the wider Nawton community has enabled me to establish and maintain many positive links with past and present whanau of the school. I feel I have an obligation to give back to a place that helped mould me in to the person I am today.

“He taonga rongonui te aroha ki te tangata”

“Goodwill towards others is a precious treasure”

No reira, tena koutou katoa.

For the last decade I have managed a Tertiary Centre in Building and Construction. I have been instrumental along with other Tutors in opening doors of opportunity for students and assisting them in becoming successful in their loives by becoming tradesmen and tradeswomen in the Building and Construction industry.

I have been a foundation member of the Hamilton Youth Guarentee Network since its inception on the 16th April, 2013. Working with the Ministry of Education and local High Schools and other Tertiary Providers to help youth to better transition from school to the workplace with further training and gain better Literacy and Numeracy Skills and and Practical Experience and a higher level 2 qualification on their journey.

I am qualified in two Trades, both the Printing Trade and the Building Trade. I am also competent in several other vocational areas and have consideral experience in the construction industry.

I believe young people should join organizations like Boy Scouts, Sea Scouts and Military Cadetships and other Service Clubs as they get older. This helps our society become a better place as youth take on responsibilities.

I was a Cub, then a Boy Scout, and I belonged to the last Air Training Corps Unit at Cambridge High School in 1963. I joined Rotaract in the early 70’s and was Foundation President of Cambridge and later President of Hamilton North and Milford in Auckland.

I have been a member of the Waikato Branch of the New Zealand Deerstalkers Association for many years and was President for a couple of terms back in the early 90’s. I also helped Draft a management plan for the Te Tapui Scenic Reserves, which is the largest remaining lowland forest in South Auckland with the Department of Conservation and private user groups and the Deerstalkers Association, our agenda was to protect the remaining Historic Fallow Deer Herd. I and a few others were appointed as Honary Rangers by the Department of Conservation at the time.

I am a 6th generation descendant of early European Pioneers who settled and helped build this country, my parents are 90 years of age and both still play competitive sport.

A positive mental attitude and helping others is in my DNA.

Alex Barrett

Kia Ora,

I’m excited to be standing for the Crawshaw School BOT. I worked at Crawshaw School as a Kiwi Can leader in 2013 I really loved my time working here and am excited to have the opportunity to be able to get involved in helping Crawshaw School to be the best it can be. I was lucky enough to be Head Girl of Fairfield College when I was at high school. There I learnt the impact a school has on shaping its students and this really cemented that my passion and skills are in youth and community work.

I currently work in the community as a Programmes Coordinator for a national not for profit organisation. Being a part of the Board of Trustees and the Crawshaw Whanau would be an honour and responsibility that I would take seriously. I enjoy a challenge and believe community and Whanau have a huge role to play in creating a successful and happy school environment.
