Obtain permission from your thesis committee to begin writing your thesis and to set a thesis defense date

Register on Albert at http://home.nyu.edu up to five months before your graduation date

·  Deadlines for registering on Albert:

September 2014 graduation: February 10 to June 13, 2014

January 2015 graduation: register June 16 to October 3, 2014

May 2015 graduation: register October 6, 2014 to February 6, 2015

If you are an international student on an F-1 visa, nearing completion of your degree requirements, you may be eligible for post-completion optional practical training, which allows 12 months of employment authorization.

View your transcript on-line at home.nyu.edu

·  Is major correct?

·  Are there any missing grades?

·  Are admissions credentials complete on transcript? It must be noted on your transcript at what school/what date your bachelor’s degree was conferred

·  Is the 32-credit requirement satisfied?

·  Have all grades been submitted?

Notify the Sackler office of your defense by sending an email to . A thesis defense template will be forwarded to you upon receipt of this email. The entire medical center community will be notified of your defense via email through our student, postodoc and faculty list-serv (send e-mail to requesting template

On Defense Day, make sure to bring the Oral Defense Form (and reader sheets if they have not been signed prior to the defense) for signature (forms can be found at http://gsas.nyu.edu/page/grad.pp.manual.html

Return signed copies of Oral defense form and reader sheets to Lisabeth Greene in the Sackler Office

Submit an electronic copy of your thesis for formatting review by the graduate school (for preliminary and final deadlines see this weblink: http://gsas.nyu.edu/page/grad.life.dissertation

Complete a Sackler Exit Survey and return to Lisabeth (survey will be going on-line during July 2014, details will be forwarded to September 2014 PhD candidates for survey completion).

Submit vacate notice to Housing at least 30 days before departure date

Last Day of Pay: Note, students can only be paid as graduate students up to 30 days post-defense. Discontinuation of salary sets in motion the following:

·  E-mail discontinuation: unless you are moving onto another NYUMC position (post-doc, etc.); Opportunity to register for an alumni e-mail at http://adl.med.nyu.edu/faq/access-alumni-digital-library

·  Health insurance will be discontinued at the end of the month in which you are paid
