Press Release

Three men who burgled construction sites in Old Trafford and Knutsford and stole more than £20,000 worth of tools and equipment have been sent to prison for twelve months.

During the early hours of Tuesday 3rd May 2016, Central Motorway Police Group (CMPG) stopped a Vauxhall Vectra travelling Southbound on the M6 motorway between junctions 14 and 13.

The vehicle contained three occupants Gigi Papuc aged 29 of Hart Road, Wolverhampton, Ioan Traian Michnea aged 44 of Deykin Avenue, Birmingham and Robert Angantin Drezaliu aged 18 years of no fixed address.

Inside the Vauxhall Vectra was more than £20,000 of tools and equipment which could not be accounted for and the three men had fresh mud on their boots.

The three men were arrested and the subsequent investigation by officers from Knutsford Police Beat Management Team revealed that the tools and equipment had been stolen in two separate burglaries of construction sites in Old Trafford, Manchester and a second burglary at premises close to Junction 19 of the M6 motorway at Tabley near Knutsford.

On Thursday 2nd June 2016, the three men appeared at Chester Crown Court and all pleaded guilty to Burglary. All three men were sentenced to twelve months imprisonment for the two offences of burglary to run concurrently.

PC Mike Dawber, Rural Beat Officer for Knutsford said “A swift and thorough investigation has led to the tools being returned to their rightful owners and the three men pleading guilty at the earliest opportunity in Court. We have worked hard to reduce rural crime across Cheshire. Rural Crime comes in all forms and this conviction sends a message out that Cheshire is not a soft touch for criminals.”
