Topic:The principles of martial arts can help us manage our personal & business challenges.
The self-defence principles of jiu-jitsu may be applied to physical & non-physical challenges, as well as to everyday living & business. We learn to recognize challenges, appreciate their potential, and take appropriate action. Learning what to do or not do & how to act are very important skills. We learn to blend with challenges, learn from them,& use them to our advantage. We are challenged from many sides everyday in business: no two days are the same, but the principles of martial arts can help us to remain centered, maintain our edge, and flourish.
Biography:Sensei Bob Burnett is a retired French Immersion & Music teacher who has been teaching the art of jiu-jitsu for 15 years in Whitby, including 5 years at U. of T. Scarborough. He is the author of Tigers & Tornados: (Martial Arts) Principles for Everyday Living. He recently appeared on an episode of 'My Community is Durham' speaking about the benefits of martial arts training for a specific student. He and the club's karate instructor, Dr. Adrian Robichaud has appeared twice on Durham Daytime.

Biography: Tom was born in Sweden, and immigrated to Canada in 1951, settling in Montreal. He is a graduate of l ‘Institute de Technology de Montreal (diploma: Electronic Technology) & Concordia University (Degree: Bachelor of Electrical Engineering).Tom worked in Montreal for such notable companies as Motorola, General Electric, Bell Canada, before being transferred to Ajax, Ontario. Being fully bilingual, Tom worked for many US based companies as their Canadian Sales rep. He has been in sales for over 35 years. The last 25 years Tom has run his own successful Sales Consulting business, specializing in helping Small to Large sized businesses organize their sales staff, and expand their territories. His specialty is sales, with a focus on prospecting (specializing in cold calling), and marketing. Indulging in his passion for corporate training and teaching, Tom not only teaches business courses at community colleges such as Seneca College, Centennial College, and Durham College, but also trains large corporations, such as Lenovo Canada (formerly IBM Microcomputer Div), in his Sales & Cold Calling Techniques.
