INVERNESS REPORT – JUNE 2012
Hello all!
June was not a month that will be remembered for good summer weather, in fact on two occasions, once at the start, and again at the end, Inverness was taking diversions from Aberdeen due to the poor weather over there. It was just a pity that we don’t have 24hr immigration here so we could take the more interesting foreign airliners, not that there was much room left on the 28th. Apparently a British Airways A320 was rejected as there is no equipment here to off-load pallets.
It is a long time since the callsign “SPEEDBIRD” was heard here, but on the 10th two Loganair SF.340s flew to Kirkwall as “BAW 9126” (G-LGNF) and “BAW 2012” (G-LGNN) carrying the Olympic flame and relay party. They returned the following day from Stornoway, it was just a shame the “SPEEDBIRD” wasn’t one of the special colour Airbuses!!
A small season of holiday charters started this month to a few destinations with aircraft provided by Small Planet Airlines using Boeing 737-300s LY-FLH and LY-SKW.
Easyjet certainly did us proud with another six A320s ticked off, and Lufthansa with 3 737-530s. We also actually had more first visitors this month, well one, but it all helps!

1st: Not exactly “flaming” June, but a pleasant sunny day. Three first visits to get the month going with GLEX XRS HB-JFY in and out in the morning, and Challenger N203R arriving to stay in the afternoon. The evening EZY Gatwick was G-EZUR taking the day total to three. Another visitor, Ce 525 D-INER was here for the second time, the first having been in 2008.
2nd: Sunny but a nippy North wind, with just one first visit by G-ZUMI, a RV-8 late on in the day.
3rd: Sunny, nippy and no fewer than 5 new visitors today. An early brief caller was Gulf 550 N49294, while Beech 200 OO-INN and Ce 510 OE-FHA came to stop the night. At tea time Ce 560XL HB-VOU hardly stopped and Easy G-EZTV rounded off a ‘Jubilee’ day!
4th: Planned charter to Dubrovnik brought a first visit of B733 LY-SKW, with 1st visits also from Hawker 900XP G-ORYX and Jet Ranger G-LDBC.
5th: A sunny day brought a first visit of Be 200 G-WCCP, although this has visited previously as N295CP.
Cessna 525A OM-OPE visited for only its second visit since April 2011.
6th: EC.225LP G-CHCX was visiting for the first time and was one of a gaggle of Aberdeen weather diversions.
7th: There were a few more Aberdeen weather diversions today, but it was bad weather further North that brought a new one to us when Ce 172R F-GJKU diverted in to us when on its way to Wick. A new resident arrived today in the shape of Long-Ez G-BMUG.
8th: A first visit today from Challenger 300 M-EVAN.
9th: A dreich day trying to put the spoiler on the Curtis Cup, Rockness, the Olympic Torch Relay and failing! Two first visits landed today, the weekly Dusseldorf gave us 737-530 D-ABIA and Citation XLS also did the honours as D-CVVV.
10th: A very busy day that included Ce 560XLS M-SNAP, a first visit although previously here as G-OSVM, and another Easyjet A320 clocked off, G-EZUK.
11th: The holidaymakers from Dubrovnik returned on a first visit from B737 LY-FLH today.
12th: Not a busy day at all, but a first visit from a once regular at Kinloss, Grob G-CGKM.
13th: Not too busy again, but the log book kept ticking over with Aero Commander N60BM calling for the first time.
14th: Nine years since its first visit in July 2003, Swiss Ambulance Challenger HB-JRC called for the second time! Not one, but two new Jetstream 31s today with Sunscan OY-SVF and Linksair G-LNKS which was based here with the late Highland Airways as G-JURA. G-NIPR finally returned today after a long time away and the addition of wingtip tanks.
15th: The first Latvian business jet, YL-ABA visited today although the frame was here in 2009 as OH-AEM.
16th: Only first visit today was courtesy of Lufthansa with 737-530 D-ABIX on this week’s Dusseldorf.
17th: A dull and damp day brought 3 first visits with Citation XLS SE-RCM, Robin Regent HB-KOE and another Easyjet A320 G-EZUN.
18th: A bit of sun today, but it was the first day this month with nothing new.
19th: Warm with passing showers today and a nice Falcon 7X HB-JOB for the log book.
20th: The only real interest today was Ce 550 YU-BTB here for only the second time.
21st: A netjet day, but main interest was Flybe substituting Cello Aviations Executive BAe 146 G-RAJJ for their Dash 8 on the Birmingham flight today.
22nd: A very quiet day but with a first visit from 125-850XP M-YCEF to save the log!
23rd: Star visitor on a grey day was grey Netherlands AF C130 G-781, and Lufthansa gave us a new B735 D-ABJB.
24th: A very busy Sunday that included no fewer than 6 Netjets, and finally a first visit when P.68 N98AG Arrived.
25th: Sunshine rounded off a very busy day that saw first visits from DA.2000LX N448AS, OO-EPU Learjet 45 and Commander N544GA. There were also second visits from Learjet 45 D-CRBE and Islander G-HEBI.
27th: Three first visits today from N570DM, a Cessna 525 and TWO EZY A320s G-EZTR and G-EZUV.
28th: This morning and again in the afternoon there were low RVRs at Aberdeen which resulted in no fewer than 16 diversions to Inverness including a fist visit by S.92A G-CHCS. Netherlands Hercules G-781 made a return visit whilst Ce 560XL G-VECT was here for the first time. Citation Bravo C/N 550-0998 last visited as OE-GHP, but arrived today as D-CELI.
29th: Smart little SR-22 N194CP was a first visit here passing through Northbound, and “stealth” Phenom 300 OY-PWO is only the 3rd of type to visit.
30th: An excellent way to end the month with two very nice first visits. Citation 550 EC-IMF arrived to stop the night and Legacy 600 SE-DJG came and went this afternoon.
