Maternity Leave Contract - Vancouver

Amnesty Canada is seeking a Business & Human Rights Campaigner to be located in their office in Vancouver. As part of the Action Team s/he will work with colleagues and members to develop a program of activities and build membership capacity in the area of business and human rights. The role will involve considerable teamwork, ensuring that Amnesty’s expanding work related to business and human rights is well planned and integrated into other aspects of Amnesty Canada’s campaigning activities. S/he will act as the staff contact with relevant NGOs, government officials and businesses, support Amnesty members and, as needed, act as Amnesty Canada’s spokesperson in this area.

Requirements:

·  university degree with some form of specialized background or experience in human rights (and business) or a minimum of 4 years post-high school work or volunteer experience in a related field

·  a minimum of 3 years experience in an NGO with a campaigning focus or solid understanding of NGO context

·  understanding of the needs of a membership movement and a predisposition to access and enable the expertise of others

·  knowledge of international economic relations and of the field of corporate responsibility

·  understanding of the business sector

·  ability to collaborate with staff and members for strategy development

·  project management skills with an action focus

·  excellent verbal and writing skills, including writing for the internet

·  computer literacy

·  strategic thinking and advocacy skills

Length & Hours: This is a full-time (37.5 hrs/wk) contract position (approximately October 15, 2006 – October 31, 2007)

Salary: $58,250 - $59,929 (dependant on experience - inclusive of 15% in lieu of benefits and non-negotiable)
