This is the official publication of the Triangle Shetland Sheepdog Club of NC, and is published at least quarterly in the interests of the club members. Articles of interest to sheltie owners will be accepted for publication; views expressed in the articles are not necessarily those of the club members or the club itself.

Membership information: Annual dues for an individual are $10.00. Dues are payable to the Treasurer when submitting an application or in December for the following year.

Meetings: Meetings are held on the second Thursday at 7:00 PM, usually in the homes of members. Meeting locations, dates, and directions are published in the newsletter for your convenience.


Advertising is accepted for the publication, at a rate of $5.00 per page. Ads can be sent to the Editor with the appropriate fee.

2008 Annual TSSC Picnic and Puppy Play Day

Hold the date! The picnic will be held at the home of Linda and Rob Nicholas on the weekend of September 20-21 (specific date and time pending depending on Rob’s schedule). Will let you all know VERY soon! Look for the announcement with details in the next week! There will be a clubmeeting at the picnic.

MINUTES OF MEETING HELD MAY 8, 2008

May 8, 2008

Meeting called to order by the Secretary at 8:00 p.m.

Minutes of the April meeting were read. Motion made by Krys to accept them as read, seconded by Cay, unanimously passed.

President’s Report: Nothing to report.

Secretary’s Report: Nothing to report.

Treasurer’s Report: We had a beginning balance in of $7,880.86 with income from dues of $10 and expenses of $695 (order for 2009 sheltie calendars) leaving us with an ending balance of $7,235.86

Committees:

Old Business:

2008 Specialty:

·  Cathy made a motion that we change the fee for the second entry of the same dog in obedience and/or rally to $18. Motion was seconded by Cay and unanimously approved.

·  Rhonda will sponsor rosettes to be awarded to dogs entered in Veterans Obedience.

·  Krys will send a draft contract to Dianne to forward to Mike Fine to be our photographer this year. Members present also would like Dianne to talk with Mike about being the sweeps judge for the Saturday show.

CGC: Cathy spoke with the tester and we are tentatively scheduled to host a test August 9. Cathy will finalize with tester.

June Meeting: Krys will notify everyone of a date in June for this meeting.

2009 Breed Judges: Following are the judges and two alternates for our 2009 specialty based on the votes received from the members:

Patty Skinner – 2nd alternate

AKC Requirements: Cathy will send a letter to Walter Bebout, Director of Canine Legislation at AKC notifying them that Frank Fletcher is the club’s legislative liaison.

AKC Responsible Dog Owner Day: Frank will be the chair for this event for the club. It will be held at the State Fairgrounds in Raleigh on September 27.

New Business:

2008 Sweeps Judges: Cathy will send a note out to the membership asking for names of sweeps judges.

September Meeting: Talked about holding show committee education at the September meeting for all members, not just the show committee.

Motion made by Cay, seconded by Krys to adjourn the meeting at 8:50 p.m.

MINUTES OF MEETING HELD June 21, 2008

Meeting called to order by the President at 1:35 p.m.

Minutes of the May meeting were read by the President. Motion made by Krys to accept them as read, seconded by Lynn, unanimously passed.

President’s Report: Nothing to report.

Secretary’s Report: Nothing to report.

Treasurer’s Report: We had a beginning balance of $7,235.86 with no income and total expenses of $836.21 leaving us with an ending balance of $6,399.65

Old Business:

2008 Specialty:

·  Jennifer has agreed to be this year’s hospitality chairman.

·  Mike Fine will be our photographer and the sweeps judge on Saturday. Brian Reid will be our sweeps judge on Sunday. Contracts have been sent to both.

CGC: We will co-sponsor the testing with Puckerbrush Dog Training. We are confirmed for August 9.

2009 Breed Judges: Krys contacted Yvonne DeFreitas about judging at our 2009 specialty. Yvonne will be judging for Central Virginia 9 months prior to our show. By a vote of 8 to 2 (8 yes, 2 no, 4 abstaining), it was decided that we would still ask Yvonne to judge. Krys will contact her and then get in touch with Carl Skinner about judging on Sunday.

AKC Show Committee Training: Cathy will get in touch with AKC and try to arrange for this training at our September meeting.

Requirements for Club Plaques: In order to receive a club plaque a member must have paid their dues for the current year (2009 for a 2008 plaque) and performed one service for the club (service in 2008 for a 2008 plaque, etc.).

New Business:

Change in Dues: Beginning in 2009 Club dues will be $15 per year, per member.

Change to Meeting Day: A suggestion was made that we move our monthly meeting to the second Wednesday of the month. Further discussion will be held at the next meeting.

VWD Clinic: Kristy is running our VWD clinic again this year. It will be from July 1 to July 31. Anyone interested in participating should contact Kristy directly.

Club Picnic: Shauna made a motion, seconded by Krys that we hold a picnic at the end of the summer, early fall. It was unanimously agreed to. Linda has agreed to host it again and will notify everyone of a date in September or October.

August Meeting: Krys made a motion, seconded by Shauna that we have a meeting in August. It was unanimously agreed to. It will be on our regular meeting date—second Thursday of the month—August 14.

Motion made by Cay, seconded by Krys to adjourn the meeting at 2:10 p.m.

Tammy Alden and Polly Brolin, Coastal:

Coastal brags: It's now Ch Coastal Wintercreek Island Tan. After winning the Open Sable class at the 2008 ASSA National, Tanner finished in short order!! Tanner's career includes multiple Best In Sweeps wins, a Specialty 5 Point RWD, and two 4 Point Specialty Majors (and all of those wins were under ten months old).

Tanner also already has a daughter that took a 4 point Specialty RWB at just 6 months old. Shelby was bred by Linda Nicholas and is owned by Carol Purath.

Deborah Luper also finished her BISS Ch Jade Mist Coastal Cruiser son. It's now Ch Coastal Wyndsong's Continental Cruiser. Cruiser also finished shortly after placing 2nd in the Open Sable class in Colorado. He finished easily with a 4 Point Specialty Major!!

Coastal's Second Chance, owned by Kathy Rutter, placed in her Futurity class at the ASSA National. Tabby is sired by Ch Sea Haven Squeeze Play x Coastal's Champagne Kisses, pts.

Wintercreek Arenray's Heartsong (co-bred by Wintercreek & Coastal) just took a 4 Point Specialty RWB from the puppy classes under Joe Molloy from the puppy classes.Mattie is a BISS Ch Coastal Wintercreek Storm Warning daughter xa Ch Coastal Beach Bunny daughter.

Jennifer Tuttle, Fairway

Fairway One Under Par, "Birdie", finished her championship!! Her resume includes 3 Majors (two 3 pt, one 4 pt) 2 BOB, anda 2nd place finishat the 2006 National at Va Beach. She was owner handled for 5 points including 1 Major and a BOB. Sunway took the leash from there and finished her wonderful fashion. She is our first Champion and from my very first litter. She is by Ch Southwinds Solange Aidan' Abet out of Shamont Sunny Disposition.
We are absolutely thrilled!!!

Fairway High Maintenance, "Barbie", took a 3 point Major from the 9-12months puppy classin Greenville SC under respected judge Linda More.

Krys Messer, Echowyn

Echowyn is happy to brag on Can Ch Echowyn Remember Me (Mimi) who picked up a major in Greenville, SC under judge Anella Cooper and a major reserve under Sulie Greendale-Paveza. Mimi placed at the National and then came home with Sunway and picked up several points before coming to hang out with me. Mimi was bred by me and is owned by Simone Rudolph in Canada. In other news, the first weekend in August, the 3rd puppy out of Aspen's (Am/Can Ch Echowyn Avalanche) first litter bred by Simone Rudolph finished her Canadian championship and a 4th littermate was WD and BOB over specials in Winnipeg. At the same shows, ZF Enchanted, a daughter of Can Ch Echowyn Moulin Rouge finished for her owner and former TSSC member Trisha Dowling.

Sandra Hellberg:

MACH4 Sandyhill's Against the Odds UD RE PT XF NJP NAP (a.k.a. Vinny) got his novice agility preferred titles for both standard and jumpers with weaves at the trials in Concord, NC 4th of July weekend.

Jane Hammett & Don Bright, Shadow Hills:

Bob Jordan:

Annie (Wistwin Anthem) completed her MX title (Master Agility Excellent) as well as her qualification requirements for next Spring's AKC Agility Nationals over the 4th of July weekend in Concord, NC. One day after her 3rd birthday!!

Barbara Thompson, Barwoods:

Ch Grandgables Boy Oh Boy will be at stud at Barwood until further notice.

Dianne Hawes, Wistwin

Dianne is happy to announce that Am./Can. Ch. Dan Dee One From The Heart will be visiting at Wistwin through mid-December. "Ticker" is from Idaho, and I am delighted to offer him at stud to the East coast fanciers. He will be at some of the shows so that interested people can get to know him. At the age of three, in very limited use Ticker has produced one champion, plus three others with specialty majors, and the winner of the 2007 ASSA Futurity

PUPPY PEN PANS

From Dianne: Tony Caldwell in Arkansas will make metal pans for the bottoms of puppy pens, to your exact dimensions. I got a pan for my 3X3 pen, with a 2" lip, and it cost just $50 including shipping. Cay and Barbara also got pans from him. The edges are smooth and the weight of the metal is very strong.
