THEATRICAL TRUSS PLATFORMS
PART 1-GENERAL
1.1 SUMMARY
A. This specification section includes the engineering, fabrication, furnishing, delivery and installation of new truss platforms as specified.
B. The full stage theatre platforms shall consist of a system of truss platforms of appropriate construction and size for all of the seating and staging configurations shown on the drawings.
C. The work in this section includes but is not limited to furnishing and installing the following major elements and associated accessories:
1. Stage floor truss platform units, adjustable understructure and required bracing.
2. Guardrails
3. Demountable fascia panels
4. Storage carts
5. Stair units and handrails
1.2 SCOPE OF WORK
A. Work under this section consists of the fabrication of new equipment and installation of new truss platforms with quantities and sizes as determined by the drawings. Work shall include the installation of all materials and equipment necessary for the proper operation of the platforms for areas indicated on the drawings.
B. Preparation and submission of complete engineered shop drawings for approval.
C. Submission of required record documents.
D. Coordination with other affected work, trades and inspections.
E. Final assembly of components to provide a complete, operable system.

1.5 SUBMITTALS
A. Shop Drawings: Prepared by Staging Concepts. Include dimensioned plans, sections and elevations showing acoustical shell system component sizes, arrangements and details of each condition of installation. Show fabrication and installation details.
B. Calculations and Reports if requested.
1.6 WARRANTY
A. Special Warranty: Staging Concepts written warranty indicating Staging Concepts intent to repair or replace systems and equipment for a period of two (2) years from the date of Owner’s acceptance. Failures are defined to include, but are not limited to the following:
1. Fracturing or breaking of unit components which results from normal wear and tear and normal use other than vandalism.
2. Delamination or other failures of glue bond of components.
3. Warping of components not resulting from leaks, flooding, or other uncontrolled moisture or humidity.

2.1 MANUFACTURER
A. Basis of design: Platform design is based upon the Staging Concepts truss platforms.

2.2 MATERIALS
A. Steel Tube: ASTM A513
B. Steel Pipe: ASTM A53 GR B
C. Steel Bar: ASTM A36
D. Plywood: Marine Grade, I-S, 1 inch (25 millimeters)
E. Aluminum: 6061-T6
F. Bolts: GR5
G. Wood Screws: ANSI/ASME B18.6.1-1981 (9)
H. Weld: E70xx Electrodes for Steel
I. Weld: 5356 Filler for Aluminum
J. Insulation: 2 inch (51 millimeters) Glass Fiber, 3PCF with fire resistant coating.
2.3 TRUSS PLATFORMS
A. General: Staging Concepts standard aluminum tube truss beam platform.
1. Frame: Structural steel tube and welded rods in a truss configuration.
2. Frame Finish: Black powder coat.
3. Surface: 1 inch (25 millimeters) Marinetech plywood.
4. Face Finish: ¼ inch (6 millimeters) Masonite
5. Underside: Flame-retardant coating prior to installation of acoustical damping.
6. Fasteners: Synthetic alignments blocks, coarse thread bolts with plastic tightening knob.
7. Leg sockets: Load bearing leg socket blocks.
B. Legs: Tube steel leg joined to underside of truss platform with demountable leg bracket. Legs to have locking screw type leveling foot.
C. Locator Nodes: Nodes to fit into a steel socket receptacle. Nodes provided to support all platform configurations.
D. Lateral bracing: bracing provided as required to meet design loads.
E. Closure panel fascia: welded aluminum tube frame.
1. Frame: welded aluminum tube. Provided in straight and extruded sections where indicated on drawings.
2. Frame finish: Black powder coat.
3. Face finish: ¼ inch (6 millimeters) Masonite.
PART 3- EXECUTION
3.1 SITE INSPECTION
A. Examine jobsite conditions for compliance with requirements for the installation tolerances. Field verify measurements at the site. Staging Concepts will contact the Architect or Theatre Consultant for notification of and discrepancies prior to commencement of work.
3.2 PLATFORM INSTALLATION
A. Install platforms and equipment as indicated on the drawings.
3.3 CLEANING
A. Clean exposed surfaces of platforms after installation. Comply with Staging Concepts written instructions for cleaning and touchup of minor finish damage.
B. Repair or replace defective work as directed by the architect upon inspection.
C. Clean up and remove all packaging materials and construction debris from site resulting from execution of work.
3.4 TRAINING AND DEMONSTRATION
A. Train Owner’s personnel to assemble, adjust, operate and maintain platforms and systems.
