BIBLE STORY (Grade 6 only)

This category is for the presentation of a Bible story, in the form of a speech, or interpretation, but not acted out as in a play. The presentation is given by one student. No costumes or props are permitted. All presentations must begin with the title and scripture reference for the story. The student must make the selection come alive by his/her narrative. The presentation should include facial and vocal expression plus other good public speaking techniques such as natural speaking gestures. The entire presentation must be memorized. The story should be 3 – 5 minutes in length. Students may use the Bible version of their choice for learning the story. Students must bring two copies of their outline(not the whole story)to the competition.

VISUAL AID SPEECH (Grades 7 – 8)

The visual aid speech must be from a Christian perspective reflecting Biblical truths and principles. It may be original or use published material. The speech must include an introduction and be within the 3 to 5 minute time limit. The introduction must include the Scripture verse(s) and/or the Christian truth to be portrayed. The student should integrate the use of visual aids while speaking. Students may use flannel graph, chalk talk, object lesson, puppets, charts, maps, self designed power point or video,etc. to teach the Bible story or Christian truth. Students who will be using the classroom’s projector and computer (PC not Mac) simply need to bring their presentation on a memory stick. Students should be familiar with how to use a remote. The presentation must be memorized. All students must work individually without any assistance.

ORIGINAL SPEECH (Grades 5 – 8)

Each entry for the original speech must be both written and presented by the student himself. The speech must have been written this school year and be 3 to 5 minutes in length. An original speech in this category can be a persuasive, informative, or inspirational essay with an introduction, body, and conclusion. While the speech is not intended to be a sermon, the speech must reflect Christian principles and/or influence. Nothing should be unwholesome in the area of euphemism, implication or content. The topic, title and content must be approved by a teacher.

The presentation should include facial and vocal expression plus other good public speaking techniques such as natural speaking gestures.

Judges will be looking for an attention-getting introduction, a clearly expressed message, an interesting presentation, correct composition and grammar, a well-developed topic and an effective conclusion.

Students should bring two copies of an outline of their speech.(Not the whole speech written out.)
