Organizing Authority

  • The International Catalina 30 Association and All Catalina Fleet 21 Chicago Region, in conjunction with the Chicago Corinthian Yacht Club are the organizing authorities.

Rules, Eligibility and Event Classification

  • This regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing, 2005 - 2008, the International Catalina 30 Association Constitution and By-Laws, this Notice of Race, and by the Sailing Instructions.
  • The maximum allowable headsail shall be 155% L.P.
  • All Catalina 30 boats with a valid International Catalina 30 Association measurement certificate and whose registered skipper is a member in good standing of the International Catalina 30 Association are eligible to race in the following classes subject to a three boat minimum in each class for separate starts:

Standard Rig Division: Spinnaker, Jib & Main, and Handicap classes

Tall Rig Division: Spinnaker, Jib & Main, and Handicap classes

 In accordance with Paragraph V.D. (changes to the of the International Catalina 30 Association By-Laws), if the number of entries does not allow separate starts for tall and standard rigging in any of the classes, then Tall and Standard Rigs shall be raced together in those classes.

 International Catalina 30 Association membership applications are available at , and will be available at the Check-In desk prior to the Regatta.

  • In accordance with Paragraph V.M. of the International Catalina 30 Association By-Laws, all crewmembers must be Corinthians (amateur yachtsmen/women) except for the boat owner.
  • This Regatta is designated Category A.

Measurement

  • Sail measurement is required.
  • The skippers/owners of all competing boats must submit a valid certificate of measurement at the time their sails are being measured.
  • Boats lacking a current measurement certificate may be measured when their sails are being measured.
  • Arrangements for sail measuring can be made from July 28 through August 2, 2007, by calling Marshall Fernholz at 847-675-4337.
  • Measurement will also be done on Friday, August 3, 2007 at the CCYC clubhouse.

Entries

  • All entries shall be submitted on the official entry form and received no later than 0900 hours on August 4, 2007. Entry forms can be found at
  • Entry fees: US Sailing member = $110; Non-member = $125.
  • Entries postmarked after July 25, 2007 = $135.
  • Entry fee includes all races, two dinners, two continental breakfasts, one tee shirt and one hat.

Check-In and Competitors’ Briefing

  • Each skipper/owner or his/her representative must check in with Catalina Fleet 21 Chicago Region at the Chicago Corinthian Yacht Club, 601 W. Montrose Drive, Chicago, IL 60613, no later than 0900 hours on Saturday, August 4, 2007.
  • Competitors briefing will be held as follows:

August 4, 2007, at 0900 hours.

Sailing Instructions

  • The Sailing Instructions will be made available to entered Catalina 30 competitors at the Competitors’ briefing on August 4, 2007.
  • Changes to the Sailing Instructions will be posted on the official notice board located at the club no later than 0900 hours on the day they are to take effect.

Courses and Racing Area

  • The Regatta will be sailed in the waters of Lake Michigan, off Montrose Harbor.
  • Courses will be at the discretion of the Race Committee.

Schedule of Races

  • Five races are scheduled, of which one must be completed to constitute a series. If more than four races are scored, each boat has one throw-out.
  • Race dates: August 4 & 5, 2007.
  • Three races are scheduled for August 4 and two races for August 5. First Warning Signals are 1300 hours and 1100 hours respectively.
  • If any of the three races scheduled for Saturday, August 4 are abandoned or postponed, one race may be re-sailed on Sunday, August 5.

Scoring

  • The Low Point Scoring System, Appendix A, will apply.
  • Time-On-Time correction will be used in the handicap divisions. This modifies IC30A Bylaws rule V.K.

Prizes

  • A national champion will be declared within each class that starts.
  • A Catalina 30 National Championship Regatta Perpetual Trophy will be awarded to the owner of each national champion in each class that starts.
  • Skippers will be awarded trophies for first, second, and third places in those classes with five or more entrants. Trophies for first and second will be awarded in classes with less than five entrants.

  • Guest docks are available. Call the Montrose Harbor Master at 312-742-7527 for further information.

Host Boats:

  • Host boats for visiting entrants will be available on a pre-arranged basis by indicating such on the entry form.

Hospitality

  • The Chicago Corinthian Yacht Club will be open to International Catalina 30 Association member racers and their guests on August 3, 4 & 5.
  • Racers and their guests are invited to the Chicago Corinthian Yacht Club.
  • Overnight guest rooms are available in area hotels. Information is available from Catalina Fleet 21.
