‘New International’ students regarding how to complete the Registration processes

Congratulations on receiving a place at the University of Portsmouth.

To become a student at the University of Portsmouth it is necessary for you to register onto your course. This process can be carried out now; steps 1 and 2 will need to be undertaken before you start your course, and step 3 either prior to or at the start of term.

Please note: if you are a student returning to the University after immediately completing a previous course, you do not need to complete step 1.

Step 1 – Get your username and password

Visit to retrieve your University computer username and password. You will be asked for your Student ID Number and date of birth. Following the successful retrieval of your computer account you can access your student Google email, Myport and other essential IT services by going to

Step 2 – Register onto your course and apply for your Student Card

Once you have your student account details you should register onto your course and apply for your Student Card.

To register onto your course go to and follow the instructions to commence your registration.

To apply for your Student Card go to to complete the application form; this will allow you to access University buildings and services. If you are not studying on-site you may not wish to apply for a Student Card. However, if you wish to use the library’s facilities you will need a Student Card. Step 3 explains how you can collect your Student Card.

When you have completed your registration form and applied for your Student Card, check your student Google email to receive confirmation that you have successfully submitted both forms.

Step 3 – Personal identification (ID) check

On-campus students

When you arrive at Portsmouth you will be required to produce personal identification (ID); this must be your current passport. Your Faculty will advise you during your first week’s activities with the time and venue for you to show us your ID.

You will not be fully registered on your course until your ID has been seen.

If you have applied for your Student Card you will be able to collect it at the point where your ID is checked.

Off-campus students

You are required to produce personal identification (ID) and evidence of your course entry qualifications. Please email this documentation to your Department/School, if this information has not already been provided.

You will not be fully registered on your course until your ID and qualifications have been evidenced.

If you have applied for a Student Card you Department/School will send it to you when you have registered onto your course and they have received evidence of your ID and qualifications.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION WE NEED FROM YOU NOW

UK Border Agency requires us to hold a record of the following information for ALL students:

Passport

Please email a copy of your passport personal information page and any UK visas that your passport contains when you register to .

Visa or Biometric Residence Permit (BRP)

Please email a copy of your new visa once you have received it and checked that this covers the whole period of your course. If you have applied for Leave to Remain you will have a BRP card and we will need copies of both sides of the card, please email these copies to .

Qualifications/Certificates

If you did not supply copies of your certificates when you applied we will need these now. If you are unable to email these, please don’t worry as you can visit Academic Registry after your arrival to have these checked and scanned. If you are emailing copies please email them to .

Please ensure that you have all travel, immigration and qualification documents in your hand luggage with you when you travel to the UK.
