HOLY NAME SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

DIRECTIONS

The Holy Name Scholarship is available to Holy Name alumni who are interested in attending Marian University for an undergraduate or graduate degree. Each year, one $1000 scholarship will be granted to an eligible Holy Name alumnus.

To be considered, applicants must meet the following criteria:

·Hold a minimum high school or undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.25

·Demonstrate a record of leadership and community service

·Commit to an educational experience framed within the context of Holy Name’s mission of being a “life-long learner who is committed to knowing, loving, and serving God.”

Students must apply for the Holy Name Academic Scholarship by January 1.

·Complete a Holy Name of Jesus Academic Scholarship Application

·Submit an essay around one of the two following topics:

  • Describe an experience or event that has allowed you to demonstrate your service to your community. What was most meaningful to you about this experience? How will it impact your formation and education at Marian University?

OR

  • How have you demonstrated throughout your high school or post-high school career that you are committed to knowing, loving, and serving God? What legacy do you hope to leave behind in light of this commitment?

Submit this essay to Sheryl Babb, Legacy Scholarship Committee at in a typed Word document or PDF. Be sure that your work is of high quality, that the words are your own, and that the length is between 600-1000 words.

·Submit two letters of recommendation with the completed Holy Name of Jesus Academic Scholarship Application Form to:

Each letter must be written by an adult who is not related to the applicant, but who knows the applicant through education, work, and/or parish/community service. Each letter should reflect why the recommending adult believes the applicant should be selected for this scholarship.

He/She may speak to ways in which the applicant has demonstrated Christ’s love for others and/or provide evidence of how the applicant has lived the Holy Name mission of being a “life-long learner who is committed to knowing, loving, and serving God.” Each letter must indicate how long the recommending adult has known the applicant, and must include the recommending adult’s original signature.

·Participate in an interview process at Holy Name of Jesus Parish.
