General responsibilities for all phase leaders

  • To raise standards of teaching and learning and support the work of the Principal.
  • To implement, monitor and evaluate wholeschool policies and educational initiatives.
  • To develop collaborative practice with the wider school communities.
  • To contribute to the strategic planning for the school.
  • To contribute to the creation and monitoring of the School Improvement Plan and SEF.
  • To ensure all staff follow academy policy to expected standards.
  • To assist in the selection and appointment of the staff of the school.
  • To be responsible for allocated budgets and the effective deployment of resources so that best value is achieved.
  • To attend consultation evenings, parental consultations and other meetings as required.
  • To act as a model for staff and students.
  • To provide challenge and act as a critical friend to the Principal.
  • To provide person centred leadership, ensuring staff morale and wellbeing are healthy.
  • To be proactive in keeping up to date with government agenda and initiatives.

Teaching and Learning

  • To carry out regular monitoring of Teaching and Learning across the phase (in conjunction with the Principal),to include observations and learning walks, sampling and scrutiny of pupil work and interviews.
  • To triangulate all evidence and maintain teacher profiles so that appraisal is effective.
  • To keep all evaluations and monitoring reports up to date.
  • To ensure that assessment and feedback is used effectively.
  • To lead Pupil Progress Meetings and monitor focus group teaching.
  • To enthuse, lead, develop and enhance the teaching practices of others across thephase, through mentoring, coaching, evaluating, supporting, guiding and effective target setting.
  • To oversee the work of teaching support staff in the phase.
  • To support the principal in appraising teaching and support staff.
  • To provide termly performance reports to the Principal with respect to standards and achievement across the phase led.
  • Teach engaging and effective lessons that motivate, inspire and improve pupil attainment, acting as a role model for the academy’s vision.

Staff Development

  • To oversee the CPD of all staff across the phase led, in line with the SIP.
  • To develop effective means of sharing good practice.
  • To maintain healthy levels of team morale and wellbeing.
  • Plan and lead inset appropriate to the needs of the staff.
