[Gardner & DeMar: Appendix 7] 1

Appendix 7. Sources for taxonomic identifications of latest Maastrichtian (Lancian NALMA) and/or earliest Palaeocene (Puercan NALMA) lissamphibians listed in Table 7 for the Bug Creek Anthills locality, Hell Creek Formation, McCone County, northeastern Montana, USA. This locality is plotted as “BCA” on the Lancian locality map (Fig. 6). This is not a comprehensive listing of all reported specimens; for example, it does not include the MCZ bulk numbered lots listed by Estes et al. (1969) for salamanders from Bug Creek Anthills.

Allocaudata / Albanerpetontidae / Albanerpeton nexuosum: Dentary (UALVP 40035) reported by Gardner (2000a).

Urodela / Scapherpetontidae / Scapherpeton tectum: Atlantes (UALVP 40092–40104: Gardner 2000b, fig. 11-8A–R) and trunk vertebrae (UALVP 40109: Gardner 2000b, fig. 11-8RR–TT) described and figured by Gardner (2000b). Gardner (2000b, fig. 11-8M–R) described and figured a nearly complete atlas (UALVP 40104) missing only the right postzygapophysis. A second nearly complete atlas (MOR 6101) recently identified by DeMar and Wilson (unpubl. obs.) is distinctly different in its neural arch, crest, and spine morphologies from UALVP 40104. Pending further study of that pair of atlantes, both are retained here in Scapherpeton tectum.
