Success in Honors Chemistry

·  Chemistry is largely described in the language of mathematics.

The skills needed for success in mathematics are necessary for success in chemistry.

·  Successful students

◊ make success in school a priority.

◊ have good attendance.

◊ are attentive, conscientious participants in the classroom.

◊ ask questions.

◊ have a dedication to mastering material since the material in

each unit will be needed in later units.

◊ know that working on homework provides practice with

the material that will be needed to meet the course objectives and to

score well on quizzes and tests.

◊ spend time exploring course material in greater depth on their own.

·  You will need a scientific calculator for this course which you must

bring every day.

What Will Be Graded?

Bell Work

Each day begins with an independent problem or question.

Some bell work earns credit for completion and some require correctness

in order to receive credit.

Book Assignments

Book assignments will often be made as classwork, homework or both.

Skill Worksheet Assignments

Worksheets will be utilized to practice mastery of topics.

Lab Reports

Each lab activity will involve some form of a report.

Some will be completion sheets of observations and data.

Some will be mini-reports, and some will be full reports.

Quizzes

There will be occasional quizzes over certain topics.

Tests

There will be a full-period test at the end of each unit to assess mastery of the

material.

Grading Scale

60% of your test/quiz percentage will be added to

40% of your assignment/lab percentage.

The result represents your grade based on the following scale.

98.0 ≤ A+ 88.0 ≤ B+ < 90.0 78.0 ≤ C+ < 80.0 68.0 ≤ D+ < 70.0 92.0 ≤ A < 98.0 82.0 ≤ B < 88.0 72.0 ≤ C < 78.0 62.0 ≤ D < 68.0

90.0 ≤ A- < 92.0 80.0 ≤ B - < 82.0 70.0 ≤ C - < 72.0 60.0 ≤ D - < 62.0

F < 60.0
