Call for Applications: IME Becas Scholarship Program

The Institute of Mexicans Abroad, (Instituto de Mexicanos en el Exterior), in collaboration with theCUNY Institute of Mexican Studies, calls for applications for a scholarship for undergraduate and graduate students enrolled or accepted in the City University of New York. The scholarship program seeks to award full tuition for an academic year for undergraduate students and full tuition for one semester for graduate students. The scholarship program recognizes, rewards and promotes academic excellence and community service in the Mexican community. Students not currently matriculated in CUNY may apply, but funds will not be disbursed until the student is matriculated.

Scholarship recipients will be expected to complete internships for a total of 15 hours per week during one semester or 10 hours per week throughout the academic year, in an affiliated nonprofit institution.

Recipients will be selected based on academic merit, financial need, and commitment to service to the Mexican community.

Faculty are encouraged to promote this opportunity to eligible students and aid in securing matching funds for the scholarship fund from their campus.

3.  Statement of Financial need (1 page): Describe your financial situation and that of your family, including eligibility for financial aid or scholarships, employment, health and other issues. Be specific and detailed.

4.  Personal statement (1 page): with attention to community service with the Mexican immigrant community, commitment to community advancement, obstacles faced in educational trajectory and what this scholarship would mean to you

5.  One letter of recommendation (ask recommender to email this directly to )

6.  (Optional) letter of commitment of matching funds.

Review of applications will begin on February 28, 2013 and announcement of scholarship awardees will be made in March and will continue until all funds have been distributed.
