Parent Information

Parents,

We had a terrific first week of school. The students have been working on routines and expectations. We have reviewed procedures. We have also begun working on nouns-the difference between a singular noun and a plural noun. In math, we have reviewed some addition skills and begun talking “math talk,” where we discussed how to make 10’s using mental math.

Homework: I have decided to start slowly with homework. This week, students will be responsible for reading and studying their spelling words. Next week, we will be adding a math page. The following week, we will add our writing homework for our blog.

*Please note, I will not be printing this homework page every week. I will do it for the first couple of weeks. However, in September, you will need to print this page off of my web site. I explained where to find it at Back to School Night. If you need help finding it, please stop by to see me.

Spelling: Please make sure that students review their spelling words throughout the week. I have included a page with activities that you can do to practice. However, students DO NOT need to turn in spelling assignments.

Reading Homework: Reading will not be logged. Students can use this opportunity to read a chapter book. Once I have logged them into RAZ Kids, they may use the program for their reading time.

Behavior Chart: This week, I will begin sending home a behavior chart. Students should keep the chart in their binder throughout the week. They will be filling in their color each day. Students will take it home on Fridays. You should initial that you have seen and discussed it. They are to return the chart on MONDAYS to earn their ticket. They will miss out on their ticket for each day that it is not turned in.

Computer Software: I will be sending home a sheet letting you know what software is available to use at home and how to access it.

Reminders:

Volunteers: I have received all of you volunteer slips. I will be creating a schedule soon. My hope is to start volunteers AFTER LABOR DAY.

Thank you for a great start to our school year. The students seem to be getting adjusted to our routine.

Have a great week,

Mrs. Hewitson
