Philadelphia Homestead Exemption

Councilman Brian O’Neill announces that Philadelphia homeowners can now apply for the Philadelphia Homestead Exemption. Under this exemption, the taxable portion of property assessments will be reduced by at least $15,000 and up to $40,000. For example, if a home is assessed at $175,000 and the homestead exemption is $25,000, the home will be taxed on $150,000.

Any homeowner who uses the property as their primary residence is eligible for the exemption. An owner occupied duplex is entitled to half of the exemption. Although the state enabling legislation for this is still pending, the due date for the applications is July 31, 2012.

If you would like an application or assistance filling it out or have any questions about the program, call Councilman O’Neill’s office (215-685-0432) between 8:30 AM and 5:00 PM or his City Hall Office, Room #562 (215-686-3422).

Vincentian Message…

In the Gospel today, Jesus calms the sea and then asks the disciples “Why are you lacking in faith?” In our life’s journey, we also must learn to believe in God’s presence and to trust in his care.

In May, with your gifts, the Society of St. Vincent DePaul was able to continue to show God’s love and care to others by assisting 25 families, providing $1,825 in food and $300 for utility and rent bills.

AID FOR FRIENDS

Can you help replenish our meals during the summer months by occasionally preparing a little extra? We are very low on meals and need your support. Containers for meals may be picked up in the SCRIP Office next to the freezer. When you fill the container, please return it to the freezer. God bless you for your kindness.
