Soccer

Play:

A toss decides the kickoff and the goal each team will defend. Teams alternate kickoffs at quarters. Ends are changed at the half.

The game shall be started by a kickoff (place kick) into the opponent’s territory from the center of the field by the center forward. The ball must go forward 27 inches to be in play. The kicker cannot touch the ball again until another player has touched it. Opponents must be at least 5 yards away from the kickoff. A goal cannot be made from the kickoff.

Penalty. If a foul occurs, an indirect free kick is made at the place of the foul.

Fouls

A foul is an infringement of the rules of the game for which a free kick or penalty kick is awarded to the opponents. A player shall not trip, kick, strike, hold, push, or jump at an opponent, use unnecessary roughness, intentionally handle the ball, engage in high kicking, or change the goalkeeper.

Penalties

Fouls inside the penalty area

1.  By the attacking team: a direct free kick shall be awarded to the defending team at the spot where the foul occurred.

2.  By the defending team: a penalty kick shall be awarded from the penalty kick mark. All players except the kicker and the goalkeeper must be outside the penalty area and in the field of play.

3.  By both teams simultaneously: a drop ball shall be taken at the spot where the double foul occurred unless within 5 yards of the goal; then it is taken outside the penalty area.

4.  For intentional charging of the goalkeeper, the player shall be removed from the game. A direct free kick is awarded at the spot where the foul occurred.

Fouls outside the penalty area

1.  For any breach by either team, the penalty shall be a reee kick awarded at the spot where the foul occurred.
