Deceptive Practices and other events

3-4 Nov 14, 0805-1046 hours. Deceptive Practices. 6832 W Montrose (HH Deli) Victim reported that he was contacted by a subject identifying himself as a Tom Miles from Com Ed for an unpaid bill and that he should use a GREEN DOT CARD in the amount of $494.49 to pay the outstanding bill. Tom Miles then stated that the payment had not cleared yet and other outstanding bills had raised the total to $1,924.00 and he should now pay the bills in full. Victim became suspicious calling Com Ed. Victim was notified to cancel said card being Tom Mills is not employed with Com Ed and that this was a scam.

15 Nov 14, 2045-2200 hours. Garage Fire. Victim reported a metal homemade stove he used to heat the garage had not been extinguished properly and had set the garage on fire. NPFD along with other fire departments extinguished the fire. Cause of the fire is being investigated by NPFD officials.

19 Nov 14, 1453 hours, Deceptive Practice. 7629 W Ainslie. Victim came into the station to report receiving a phone call from an IRS agent claiming the victim owes them $5,600.00 in back taxes. HHPD Detectives interviewed the victim and learned that the phone call was a scam. Call came from a Middle Eastern male caller and the number was 216-539-4534.

20 Nov 14, 1907-1915 hours. Deceptive Practices. 6650 W Montrose. (Gas Depot). Victim stated that a M/W subject had passed 7 counterfeit 20 dollar bills, CCTV captured the transaction along with the offender(s) who are described as the following:

Suspect # 1 M/W heavy build, 20 YOA, blue jeans, black jacket, black stocking hat.

Suspect # 2M/H thin build, blue jeans, Maroon/black fleece jacket, yellow t-shirt, blue matix baseball cap worn backwards.

HHPD Detective division investigating.

21 Nov 14, 0900 hours. Disorderly Conduct/Electronic Harassment. 4728 N Harlem.(Century 21 Grande Realty). Victim reported a male client identified only as a J.T.Black had called asking to view a listing and requested to meet at the Starbucks at the HIP. Victim then said she was running a little late when she received numerous obscene texts from Mr. Black. Victim was advised to avoid any further contact with him.

23 Nov 14, 1600-1622 hours. Suspicious Circumstances. 4761 N Nagle. Butera’s Market. Complainant reported that 2 F/B subjects and an M/B subject had attempted to use a Walgreens Debit card for $480.25 to purchase groceries. The transaction was denied and the subjects left the store in a red minivan with unk temp IL registration. Subjects described as around 25-30 YOA, 1 female having drk hair and stocky build and the other as younger looking with a thin build. M/B subject only described as having a med build. Subjects had previously attempted this a few weeks back and the stocky female subject was described as having on a blond wig.

30 Oct – I Nov 14, 1930-0800 hours. Criminal Damage to Property. 6440 W Gunnison St. 6700 W Gunnison St. (Bethany Church) Graffiti was spray painted on both buildings with Red and Black spray paint by unk off(s).

31 Oct – 1 Nov 14, 1700-1854 hours. Criminal Damage to Property. 7516 W Winona St. Victim reported that unk off(s) had thrown a landscaping brick braking out her Sil 2009 Honda Civic’s rear window and left rear tail light.

1-2 Nov 14, 2200-0630 hours, Burglary from Motor Vehicle. 4305 N Newland. Victim reported unk off(s) had punched out the locks on his parked Chevy van and that $1,668.00 in miscellaneous Ridgid and Dewalt power tools had been taken from the vehicle.

2 Nov 14, 1545-1640 hours. Theft from Motor Vehicle. 4701 N Harlem. Victim reported that unk off(s) had removed her Beige 2001 Honda Accord rear license plate # R442910 from her parked Vehicle.

2-3 Nov 14, 2200-0030 hours. Burglary from Motor Vehicle. 4400 Block Nagle. Victim reported unk off(s) had removed a Ed Hardy bag from her red 2008 Chevy 4 door containing purses, perfume and prescription medication. CCTV shows a M/W subject wearing a short jacket and hat approach the vehicles trunk which appeared to be open or that a possible key was used when the subject then took the bag walking N/B on Nagle Ave.

3-4 Nov 14, 1700-1100 hours, Theft. 6920 W Montrose. Victim reported his black/silver 200LB cement Harley Davidson Statue valued at $600.00 was taken by unk off(s) from his backyard.

9 Nov 14, 0000-0005 hours, Theft. 6861 W Leland. Victim reported that her daughters friend took her adopted kitten without her permission from her residence and has not returned it. HHPD Detective Division investigating incident.

7-9 Nov 14, 1200-1250 hours. Criminal Damage to Property. Victim stated that unk off(s) had written graffiti on her garage door being the word (Royal) with a black marker.

14 Nov 14, 1828-1943 hours. Criminal Trespass to Property. 4726 N Odell. Victim stated she had an ex-boyfriend posted from her residence earlier this date. The subject came back to her residence and ran from the area and was located in front of 4706 N Odell by HHPD and placed into custody. Arrested for Criminal Trespass was a Krok, Slawomir S M/W 38 YOA, 2828 N 74th Ct. Elmwood Park on a signed Misdemeanor Complaint.

26-27 Nov 14, 2230-0800 hours. Theft from Motor Vehicle. 4740 N Newland. Victim reported that unk off(s) had removed his catalytic converter from his 2004 Pont Sunfire.

26-28 Nov 14, 1500-0600 hours. Theft from Motor Vehicle. 4709 N Sayre. Victim reported that unk off(s) had removed his catalytic converter from his 2000 Olds Silhouette.

Crimes against Persons

2 Nov 14, 0300 hours, Disorderly Conduct. 6605 W Forest Preserve Drive. Victim reported that unk off(s) had thrown eggs at the East side of her residence. No damage reported at this time.

10 Nov 14, 2100-2117 hours. Suspicious Fire. 6601 W Norwood Ct. Victim reported that the buildings fire alarm was going off and a smell of smoke was coming from the storage room/unit. Victim put out the fire that was coming from a bag chair with a fire extinguisher. NPFD also was on scene and deemed the fire was most likely started by someone. Both NPFD and HHPD investigating incident.

24 Nov 14, 1239 hours. Battery. 4419 N Nashville. Victim reported being involved in a altercation with a roommate inside the residence and was struck in the face with a closed fist. Victim signed a waiver refusing to prosecute the offender.

Home repair scams/ Ruse burglaries. Reminder: Do not allow anyone into your residence that you do not know and didn’t call for service.
Scam artists knock on your door offering to repair something in or around your home for a very low price. They ask you to pay upfront and you will never see them again or if you allow them inside your residence, they will distract you and steal your valuables.
All Village Employees/PublicWworks have IDs on them at all times. Ask for ID and call 911 for verification.
