COURSE DESCRIPTION

The College Board’s supplemental college planning and career exploration program for high school students providesa focused curriculum, including information and guidance on the college application process, financial planning, and other important processes and academic behaviors.

The program’s lessons are aligned to the Partnership for 21st-Century Skills, the ELA (English Language Arts) and Math College Board Standards for Success, the ASCA (American-School Counselor Association) standards and have been cross-referenced with ELA and Math standards for the state of Georgia and with Common Core Standards. Four main components drive the CollegeEd program: the Student Workbook, Educator Guide, Family Guide and CollegeEd

Students will be able to:

•  Increase number of students applying to college

•  Increase number of students attending college

•  Increase number of students taking PSAT

•  Increase number of students taking AP classes.

Evaluation Procedures:

The school-wide assignment tasks and assigned weights include the following: Homework (15%), Classwork/Participation (20%), Quizzes (15%), Sponge/Exit (10%), Projects (20%), Exams (20%).

Grading Policy:

A: 90 – 100%; B: 80 – 89%; C: 74 – 79%; D: 70 – 73%; F: Below 69%.

Students are expected to adhere to the highest standards of academic honesty. Plagiarism occurs when a student uses or purchases ghost-written papers or products. It also occurs when a student utilizes ideas or information obtained from another person without giving credit to that person. If plagiarism or another act of academic dishonesty occurs, it will be dealt with in accordance with the academic misconduct policy as stated in the Atlanta Public Schools Handbook and the Benjamin E. Mays High School Handbook

·  Eight colored tab subject dividers to separate each academic class, including AVID

·  Zipper pouch to store supplies (3-hole punched heavy duty zip-lock bags also work)

·  Two or more pens (must be blue or black)

·  Filler paper

·  Assignment Logs/Sheets for each academic class- must be kept up-to-date

·  Tutorial logs (maintained per quarter)

·  Cornell Notes/ Learning Logs

·  Agenda- to calendar upcoming tests, quizzes, project due dates and events

·  Calculator

·  One or more colored highlighter pens

·  Notebook dictionary and/or thesaurus

·  Six-inch ruler

·  Tips on note-taking and test-taking skills, tutorial guidelines, or other AVID strategy sheets
