Fourth Grade!
A
Attendance
It is extremely important that your child arrives on time each and every day to ensure a successful school year. If your child is ill or will be in late please call our attendance line at 517-521-3071 ext. 201.
Assemblies
At Webberville Elementary, we will have an assembly at the end of each month. During these assemblies we will recognize students for their achievements within that month. If your child will receive an award, our friendly office staff will call you.
B
Book Orders
Throughout the year, your child will have the opportunity to order books through various Scholastic book clubs. Please make the check for your order out to Scholastic Books and return it with the order form by the deadline.
Birthdays
Birthdays are a special occasion for children. On your child’s birthday, they will receive a small gift in class as well as a serenade from their classmates. Your child may bring in a special treat for the day. We do have students with peanut allergies, please be aware of this circumstance when selecting a treat for the class. If your child has a summer birthday, they may bring in a treat any time throughout the year.
C
Communication
I believe that a good parent-teacher relationship is very important to your childs success at school. Throughout the year I will communicate with you by sending home weekly newsletters, Friday reports, telephone calls, emails, report cards, and conferences. I encourage you to contact me any time with any questions or concerns. Feel free to contact me any time at 521-3071 or
Conferences
Parent-teacher conferences are held twice per year. Our fall conferences will be held on October 17-18, from 4:00-7:00. Spring conferences will be held on February 21, from 4:00-7:00.
D
Discipline
At Webberville Elementary we have three school rules that we expect all students to follow to ensure a learning environment that leads to success for all students. Our three school rules are:
- Love the team
- Do what’s right
- Do your best
E
Excused Absences
If your child is going to be absent, please call the office at 521-3071 ext 201 and also let me know in advance if possible.
F
Field Trips
We have three amazing field trips in the fourth grade. This year we will visit the state capitol to review what we have learned in government. We will also visit The Chelsea Milling Company (aka Jiffy Mix) to review how economics work. Last but not least will be our overnight field trip to Port Huron in May.
Friday Folders
Each Friday, your child will bring home a Friday folder containing newsletters, weekly reports, notes, and graded assignments. Please return the folder on Monday of the following week.
G
Grading
Grades this year will be a little different from the past four years. This year your child will receive the following traditional grading scale:
A= 90-100%
B= 80-89%
C= 70-79%
D= 60-69
F= Below 59%
H
Homework
In fourth grade, there will not be a homework packet. If your child does not complete an assignment during the allotted time in class, they are required to take it home to be completed and then returned the next day. I strongly encourage the students to read 30 minutes per night and study their spelling words and math facts every night.
Honor Roll
We will hold an honor roll assembly following the completion of each trimester. In order for your child to receive an award they cannot have any grade lower than a B-.
I
Invitations
If your child is going to have a birthday party, we ask that you give the invitations to me so I can pass them out at the end of the day. Passing out invitations during class, just leads to hurt feelings for the students not invited.
J
Journals
During our Daily 5 language arts block, students will have multiple opportunities to write in their journals. The students will be able to write about the novel they are currently reading, an assigned topic, or free choice. It is extremely important to have your child write each and every day.
K
Kindness
Students at Webberville Elementary are expected to treat everyone with kindness. Bullying will not be tolerated at our school. Students will feel safe and welcomed when they enter the building to ensure academic success.
L
Lunch
Our class will go to lunch from 11:25-11:55. The students will have recess outside for 15 minutes and then come in to eat. If your child has hot lunch they will have a card with their student number on it, which they just swipe to pay for their food. Please make sure you keep enough money in your child’s account to help out our food service staff.
M
Math
We will follow the national curriculum of the Common Core Standards this year. This year some of the topics we will be mastering are long division, multiplying multi digit numbers, fractions, and decimals. Students who master their math facts will be successful when learning these new concepts.
N
Newsletter
Each Friday I will send home a weekly newsletter to keep you updated on what we learned that week and fill you in on important dates and information.
O
Office
When you need to call in an absence, turn in paperwork, or ask questions that do not apply to our classroom, the Webberville Elementary office is the place to go! Our school secretary is Mrs. Liz Davis. She is extremely helpful and can be reached at 521-3071 ext. 200.
P
Parties and Celebrations
Throughout the school year we will have three parties, Halloween, Holiday, and Valentine’s Day. Students will select which party they want to bring in a treat for. I will then send a note home with the selections for that party.
Plot
A unique part to our science curriculum allows the fourth graders the opportunity to go out to the plot, near the football field. The students will set up an area for observations and scientific discovery. Notes will go home at a later time if you would like to volunteer to help us set up.

Recess
We will have recess twice each day. Lunch recess will be from 11:25-11:40 and afternoon recess will be from 2:00-2:20. Students should wear closed toed shoes as well as weather appropriate clothing each day. On rainy days, we will have indoor recess in our classroom.
S
Snack
We will have snack every day in our classroom. When sending a snack, please make sure it is a healthy snack that is peanut free, due to allergies.
Specials
Music
Students will discover the wonderful world of music with Mrs. Filipiak on Tuesday, Thursday, and every other Friday.
Gym
Students will work out with Mr. Weaver on Monday, Wednesday, and every other Friday. I will send home a schedule for the alternating Friday’s so your child knows when they need gym shoes.
Library
We will have library every Tuesday. This year the students are allowed to check out two books. The books will need to be returned the following Tuesday.
T
Toys
Bringing toys to school is discouraged because they distract the children from learning. If a toy or electronic device is lost or broken, feelings get hurt.
U
Unusual transportation
If there is a change in routine transportation for your child, you must send a written note. If a written note is not received, your child will be sent home by their usual method of transportation.
V
Volunteering
Your help within the classroom is always appreciated! Our schedule is very busy, and any time you would like to help would be wonderful. We can always use help with Dolch word testing, reading one-on-one with a students or working on math concepts.

Please think about how you would like to get involved at Webberville Elementary this year. We have numerous opportunities ranging from popping popcorn on Friday mornings, joining our elementary boosters, to helping in classrooms that will help you get involved in your child’s education.
Z
Zzzzzz
Sleep at this age is vital! Please establish a good bedtime routine and stick with it. At this age, students are involved in after school activities and clubs. It is important that they prioritize their tasks and get to bed at a reasonable time.
