Kimble Chase Introduces MIDI-VAP 4000 Distillation System for Regulatory Water Analysis

Digital controller adds reliable, walk-away operation capabilities to a compact system

Introducing precision and repeatability to distillation methods required by the US EPA for water analysis is good news for environmental chemists. Kimble Chase, the largest manufacturer of laboratory glassware products worldwide, introduces its MIDI-VAP 4000, a system devoted to rapid and repeatable isolation by distillation of ammonia, phenols and cyanide from water samples.

The MIDI-VAP 4000 distillation system is designed to accommodate US EPA standard test methods for analysis of environmental and wastewater samples. The system employs a market exclusive, Watlow digital controller with temperature pre-sets at 126 °C for cyanide distillations and 165 °C for ammonia and phenols. Temperature programming is simplified with the easy-to-read LED display, which includes an amber light to indicate heating in progress. Easy to adjust needle valves provide accurate control.

The MIDI-VAP 4000 has a rapid heating 10-position manifold heater block that is sealed with PTFE gaskets to prevent spills from entering the interior. Depending on the desired analyte, analysts select glassware sets for cyanide, or ammonia and phenol distillations. The compact MIDI-VAP 4000 unit can be easily used under a fume hood since it requires minimal space and weighs under 40 lbs. Distillations are performed with only 50 mL of sample – reducing the volumes of both reagents and waste. The MIDI-VAP 4000 is CSA certified, CE-marked and UL approved.

“Government mandated analytical methods call for replicate sample, spike and two quality control samples for every 20 sample run, and that can mean a lot of work,” says Kelly Williams, global marketing director at Kimble Chase LLC. “The digital controller we incorporated into the MIDI-VAP 4000 simplifies operations, and comes with a warranty to ensure long-lasting performance,” she added.

The Kimble Chase MIDI-VAP 4000 is available worldwide from facilities located in the US, Europe and Asia, which are operated in compliance with ISO quality standards. Sales teams are located in North America, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.
