BELFAST ONE WORLD RUN – this event is held annually at this time of year to raise funds for four of the leading charities working with the poor and deprived in various under-developed countries: Christian Aid, Concern Worldwide, Oxfam and Trociare. The Run - formerly called the "THIRD WORLD RUN" has been held annually since 1987, so this will actually be the 30th staging of the event ! It is organised by a small voluntary cross-community committee working in conjunction with the four agencies, and all proceeds from the event, now totalling more than £195,000 over the past 29 years, are divided between them. We will hope to pass the £200,000 total this year! This year's Run is being held In Ormeau Park next Sunday at 3.00 pm. There are three separate events: - a 10K Run, and 5K and 2K Runs or Walks, so entrants of all ages and abilities can participate, from serious runners to pensioners, toddlers, family groups etc . A new feature this year is that accurate chip timing has been introduced for the 10K Run to attract the more experienced club runners.
