Respect in Sport Certification

Sport Manitoba believes in being proactive in ensuring sport in our province is safe and welcoming for all participants.

Respect in Sport helps us promote those values through a simple and convenient on-line training course for coaches and sport leaders. It is designed as a tool to assist coaches in identifying and dealing with abuse, neglect, harassment, and bullying in sport.

Respect in Sport enables coaches to deal with legal and moral responsibilities, making them less vulnerable and more confident in dealing with sensitive issues. A risk management tool, Respect in Sport will help sport organizations reduce liability.

As a mandatory requirement, all coaches identified with a Provincial Sport Organization are required to take the course.

ranking for provincial championships

Provincial Championship Ranking System

It is important to keep the onus with those who participate in our volleyball system; teams are now accountable for their own ranking for Provincial Championships through their performance throughout the season in sanctioned tournaments.

  • Teams will earn points for their finishes in Volleyball Manitoba sanctioned tournaments ONLY. An average of points earned in tournaments will be considered when ranking teams for Provincial Championships and ranking maybe be subject to final approval by the Competitions Committee. The process of calculating point averages is currently being finalized and notice will be sent out before the beginning of the season once the process is approved.
  • . In order for rankings to be subject to approval by the competitions committee two (2) things need to occur. First, a discrepancy or misrepresentation in the rankings needs to be brought to our attention in writing (by emailing ). Second, VM needs to be presented with enough evidence to suggest that the team(s) in question are misrepresented (ranked too high or too low). If the competitions committee is summoned to review rankings team results will be considered and the committee may request rankings from club coaches for assistance as they see fit. Review of rankings by the competitions committee does not guarantee alteration of points-based rankings.
  • Teams will only receive full points for tournaments played in the age/tier category they are registered in for the provincial championships.
  • Should a team play up in a sanctioned tournament, they will still earn points toward the championship in which they are registered in, however, when transferred down, 100 point value will be removed for the overall total.
  • Should that team also choose to play up for provincial championships full points will be rewarded for all sanctioned tournament play.
  • Points will not transfer UP for Provincial Championships
  • ***NEW*** Teams must participate in a minimum of two (2) Volleyball Manitoba sanctioned tournaments (at any age category) in order to be eligible to compete in provincials.

REPORTING SCORES

  • Once sanctioned tournaments are complete, tournament hosts must send full results and placements from their tournament of ALL teams who participated to
  • The Volleyball Manitoba office must receive results no later than 12:00pm on the first Wednesday after the completion of the tournament.
  • If results are not received by the deadline, points will not be awarded for that tournament. It is the responsibility of the tournament host to contact Volleyball Manitoba with results.
  • Cooperation is greatly appreciated to ensure that all teams are credited with appropriate points.
  • In the case of a tie, the average of the top three (3) finishes between the tied teams will beconsidered.
